Day 3 - La Fortuna (Part Uno)

If you thought yesterday was adventurous… hold onto your saddle because today was all about waterfalls (don’t go catching any), rappelling, a monkey drop and … water slides!

It’s full of activities and videos that are too good not to share so … breaking this day into dos parts: Part Uno (that’s this one - keep reading) and Part Dos (that’s will be the next post).

Without further ado … Part Uno of our last full day and night in La Fortuna.

Part Uno is all about the PureTrek Canyoning … players in this game of “life” include Mick, Big Ang, Mateo and Lil’. The Lynn boys were chomping at the bit (a play on words from Day 2 - Giddy Up) to suit up, snap-in and repel the shiz out of some waterfalls. Big Ang and Lil’ … we boarded the bus to take us to PureTrek all for the love of the Lynn boys.

Disclaimer: I did watch a YouTube on this place before arrival, so I had an idea as to what it may be like and what to expect. That helped a tiny bit … but like the Gram, it’s hard to really tell reality via a YouTuber so I remained on alert and skeptical.

Mike tried to ease my concerns with a review of their FAQs page and shared the answer to the question … “Is it safe?” Anyone guess what the answer was?

You guessed it! It was, “Yes, it is safe”. Duh!

Even I know it’s bad business to answer otherwise. Sheesh! 🙄 I appreciated the effort by Mick, and we continued on.

We arrived … we suited up, clipped in and after a quick tutorial (much more in-depth v the horse ride), we were off.

—> 1st Waterfall Rappel:
175 feet down, with a gushing waterfall. (Pics uploaded)

Big Ang tip … When rappelling next to a waterfall … close the ol’ mouth; unless you want to try waterboarding. Totally know what that feels like now and I have a small mouth! 😬

—> Ladder Rope Climb (aka BS)
This made me made as a hornet. 🐝 This rope ladder was a toughie. I was already reeling from the water boarding and assessing my current quality of life, to then be informed I have to now climb back up the rock via a rope ladder. And please take note of the type of gloves we had to wear! I have big mits but these? Brought me back to when I would slap on a pair to weld with my dad many years ago … except add soaking wet and no supervision.

Let’s say once I made it to the top, tears were SO close to forming. But I sucked it up, and massaged my left hand and forearm to work out the awesome cramp I just snagged myself. It subsided and so did my tears just in time for the …

—> Monkey Drop:
Short zip line and then a drop into a square pool. (Videos

Big Ang add … I despise a free fall … so had my eyes closed the entire time, and just when I couldn’t take it anymore, they slowed me down and plopped me in the water. Phew …

Next …

—> Canyon Drop:
Rappelled down into a canyon. Not as long as the first rappel but this is one I’ll brag about because why not.

Big Ang takeaway … probably my favorite of the day as there was a little comfort having two rocks surrounding me like a big stone hug. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Intermission = Another grueling hike up and out of the canyon to the next platform … “thank you sir, may I have another”. Leg day was yesterday but apparently PureTrek didn’t get the memo.

—> Goblin Drop:
Easy, peasy. A short drop down (maybe 39ft) that led us to the last platform.

Big Ang says … why not!?!?! When in Rome! Scooted off the edge as instructed, twisted (and twisted some more 😳) until … boom! D-u-n!

I bet you are expecting me to wrap it up now with “We made it” and head into Part Dos. Well … not quite yet.

Not before more leg day … the hike out from here was probably the worst!!! Not necessarily harder than yesterday but these stems were out of gas. No mas va… Lots of stopping to smell the flowers and watch ants cross (if you catch my drift).

But … we made it! 😀 Food was served to us survivors at the PureTrek camp and then back to Carolyn, Lexi and Z who were at the house waiting to kick off Part Dos of Day 3.
