Day 4 - La Fortuna —> Monteverde 🦥

Day 4 of our Costa Rica adventure and today’s mascot? A sloth! 🦥
Fuzzy creatures with long “nails” and a lover of long naps. Most active during the nighttime and they feast on leaves; herbivores. All these sloth characteristics are true but they are not why it’s our mascot for today.
🦥 It is our mascot because sloths aren’t known to be fast, but rather slow and steady, and today … that was our approach and we were all TOTALLY ok with that.
We all slept in, with a promise to be packed up and on the road by 10am. Mike and I took a little walk for coffee and pastries, we all packed up and we were only about 20 mins behind schedule. Slow and steady in its finest form.
Plus … today we visited Sloth Territory with the hope of snagging a one-hour tour to see some cute fuz-buckets sloths before heading to Monteverde for the next few days. So a sloth mascot seems appropriate, doesn’t it?
At Sloth Territory, hope —> reality and we were able to see 4-5 sloths snoozing away up in the trees. It’s hard to get a solid face pic but Lexi persevered and snagged some solid photos of the allusive bugger.
Our tour-guide at Sloth Territory was Ruben and is probably my favorite tour guide yet (Not including Mike. Mike is in a class of his own 🫶🏼). He was funny but not “try-hard” funny. Ya know the type? And he didn’t beat around the bush. He was mindful of our time and delivered info and sloth-sightings, all within our timeline.
For me … all I kept replaying in my head is the sloth DMV scene from Zootopia. Have a quick watch! You will thank me later.

And I’m sure someone you know comes to mind when you think of a sloth. Funny how that happens!
All and all, a perfect tour and easy walk (no leg day today - thank you Jesus!). A light cardio to the point my watch asked me if I was done with my workout.
After that … we were ready to hit the open road in Pepe and Deelux (yep - Matthews whip has been named) to Monteverde / Cloud Forest where we have plans to stay in cabins up the mountains a bit in Santa Elena.
Total drive time 3+ hours, plus a lunch stop at Cafe & Macadamia about mid-way. A recommendation by Ruben; a must stop he said and he was right! Delicious food and had macadamia nut shells all over the floors outside. Not to mention the view was gorgeous! A few resident kitty cats but they didn’t swing through so Mike overlooked that piece.
Back into Pepe and Deelux after lunch for more twists and turns around the mountain. Beautiful natural landscape and cattle ranches for days. Skies were clear and so were the roads, minus a couple sneaky speed-bumps in there where Pepe took them like a champ. But other than that … easy stuff. Just slow and steady 🦥.
Made it to the cabins about 4:30. There are three cabins; two are the same and one is different. I uploaded a few pics of ours so you can get a feel for the interior of this place. Another keeper!
We rounded out Sloth day with dinner up the hill at Cejales; a restaurant in the neighboring hotel. “Fine” seemed to be the overall consensus of the meal but good conversation always makes the time spent together well worth it. ♥️
Chilly here tonight! This is a surprise! Anyway, the crew is pooped and all are looking forward to a good night of sleep before … zip lining tomorrow!
Much love,
