• Day 10 - Quepos (Plane ✈️ + Beach 🏖️ )

    12. januar, Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Today was the last full day in Quepos …

5 of us continue on to Tamarindo tomorrow, and two of our adventurers headed back to the U.S to re-enter reality.

Where we were the lucky 7, today we are now the fantastic 5.

One of the questions I didn’t address after yesterday’s fishing success was … “What did you do with all that fish that didn’t get prepared at Butcher Block?”

Answer: It’s was sent all to be processed, packaged and frozen so we can eventually take it back with us when we head back to our reality Friday. But let’s not talk about the end of this trip … Puts Mike in a bad mood to think about things like that. 😉 Lol.

Our morning started off with saying goodbye to Z and Lexi … they were hitching a ride on a tiny, tiny plane back to San Jose (Costa Rica) where they would each catch flights to their respective homes.

When we pulled up to the “airport” to drop them off, it was NOT what I expected at all. I knew it would be a small plane but the airport’s security consisted of a man opening a gate and letting them in. No checking of tickets, bags, etc … people literally waited for their flight on lunch table benches.

Mike and I waited to be sure they got all checked in before taking a quick pic and waving 👋 goodbye. Tears may have welled up in my eyes (my contacts used to dry those up and I could get away with situations like this, but not anymore). Mike asked me if I was sad or worried … honestly I was bolth.

Why sad? The trip with all of us was amazing and as we all know … as life continues, and kids get older, it gets harder and harder to get everyone together. But it happened and I’m forever grateful it did! Just sad it had to end.

The worried part was just a smidge of the tears … I mean …. we were sending off our babes on a tiny Kodiak plane without us. I know, I know … need to relax and let go. I’m a WIP.

The remainder of the day was beach day! Very casual and restful … We ventured to the beach by Manual Antonio Nat’l Park where we posted up under a pop up; option of sun or shade. But just before that, we walked around for some local shopping … where a Frenchman really pushed a silk wrap dress. He was not quite the French Fiddler found down in Palm Springs and he smelled as you might expect just looking at him. 🤢

Monkeys were stealing bananas and roaming around in search of what else they could get into. Dora was giving me a quick “taste” of a foot massage, like a drug dealer does. It worked! Foot massage on the beach, for half price. Felt like I got a good deal until she wrapped up well before time. Dang it!! Lilly got the real deal massage and Matthew had his hair done (not a cut but a different Costa Rican style - he will share pics, just ask!)

Then a round of cold beverages where a Shirley Temple sounded good so snagged that as my beverage of choice. Posting this given all the discussion in the U.S. today RE food choices. RFK Jr. would be appalled as I assume there may be a few drops of Red Dye #2 in this … 😳

After beach-time, we cleaned up and headed to dinner for Cheeseburgers in Paradise (RIP Jimmy Buffet) at El Avión. Very cool atmosphere and the bar inside is the plane was definitely unique! Any bar that plays Snoop Dogg is a bar I could belly up to. But our bed was calling so a quick tour was our choice.

Early to bed … Mike has us on a tight schedule tomorrow. Up and out by 10am to set out for a 5+ hour drive to our last destination ….
