• Day 1 - Sydney / Adelaide

    June 6 in Australia 🌙 9 °C

Going on a short holiday with Mum, down to Adelaide and then a multi-day coach tour to various places in South Australia. Primarily Lake Erye.

Got up early, Michele kindly took us to the station. We took the train to the airport without any issues.

Sydney airport is undergoing some renovations. The check-in and security sections are temporarily moved to different areas. This is confusing as the existing signage tells you one thing, and the temporary signage trys to send you in a different direction. Both Mum and I both got a pay down at security.

The boarding gate changed at the last moment for no reason. Quick dash to the new gate during the final call.

Flew JetStar, budget airlines. No free drinks/eats on the plane. Was asked to store my backpack under the seat as all the people with rigid luggage needed the room in the overhead containers. Deeply suspicious as to whether the other passengers are keeping within the carry-on luggage limit.

Saw some beautiful mountains and waterways while flying out from Sydney.

After we landed a dense pillar of smoke abruptly appeared at the airport. Somewhat concerning at first but it burned itself out pretty quickly and there were no sirens in response.

Took the bus from airport. Which did not initially accept our credit cards, but decided to work after the tap-on system had "warmed-up" after a while.

About a half-hour bus journey, it was just a 10 minute walk to our hotel (WHICH HOTEL). The clerk said the hotel was over 120 years old, which explained why it feels so wonky. The hallways to the rooms and and stairs up to out floor were very long and windy, often branching off in unexpected directions. I would hate to have to try to find the way out if there was fire and the building was full of smoke. The bedroom also had strange dimension, about the size of a coach bus with the bathroom strangely placed in middle with a hallway snaking around it.

After check-on we wandered down to the Botanical Gardens and poked around there for a bit. I went a bought a hat as I'd forgotten to bring one. Chinese takeaway for dinner.
