• Big Kauri Tree and Waiau Falls

    Close to our campsite, there was a quick 30 min hike to a few Kauri trees, especially one huge individual with at least 3m in diameter. A bit further south, we saw my favourite waterfall yet, Waiau Falls with a little natural pool.
    We drove on and saw a sign on the side of the road saying to watch out for penguins. We had a litte stop in a slow vehicle bay to climb a cool tree when we spotted them. I ran to fetch my camera, got into position, zoomed in and saw: It wasn‘t penguins. It was shags, probably. Though, I maintain. They look like a penguin and a seagull had a lovechild.
