    A 2.5 hour drive later, we arrived at Lake Taupo where we were kindly invited to stay with Colin and Elizabeth who both made us feel incredibly welcome. Elizabeth was our tour guide for the day and let us see the Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre with a geological display (if you like rocks (and I do), check it out if you happen to be in the area). We drove on to Mt. Ruapehu - a desolate, rocky ski area (not so much of that going on in the summer, but there‘s also rock climbing).
