    We were woken up once again by a chorus of cockatoos — honestly, they’re adorable. This time, they got particularly close to us. One cockatoo deserves a special mention: it flew onto a branch that unfortunately did not possess the load-bearing capabilities the bird anticipated. The branch dipped, the bird slowly tipped sideways, and before I knew it, it was hanging upside down, stubbornly refusing to let go. The whole thing unfolded in slow motion and had me in absolute stitches. 😄

    Since Timo had already been to the Blue Mountains on a previous visit — sometime in the late 1950s, give or take a decade — he remembered the Three Sisters as being a particularly nice sight and showed me around the area. Naturally, things had changed since then: new roads, new viewing platforms, more tourists… and electricity had apparently been invented in the meantime, too.

    After a short hike of about two to three hours — and thankfully far away from the countless (!) tourists — we got back into the car and drove on to Sydney, where we would be spending Christmas.
