Karlštejn Castle

Karlštejn Castle was founded in 1348 by the Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor as his private residence and a place of safekeeping royal treasures, especially his collections of holy relics and the Imperial Crown Jewels. The castle was much more impressive from the outside then the inside. The castle was abandoned for a number of years then the outside was restored. The information on the tour indicated that all the trees around the castle during its time had been cut down for firewood or construction.
