• East Mebon temple

    27 gennaio 2017, Cambogia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

The East Mebon is a 10th Century temple and the oldest we visited today. Built during the reign of King Rajendravarman, it stands on what was an artificial island at the center of the now dry East Baray reservoir.

The East Mebon was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and honors the parents of the king.

Short after the completion of the temple, it was replaced by the Pre Rup temple as this East Mebon was not accessible to all people as it was water locked and only individuals who owned boats were able to worship at this temple.

This temple is full of elephants statues while Pre Rup has loads of Lion statues.
