  • Tarangire National Park

    February 16 in Tanzania ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Day 1 was a battle - landing at 7am and doing a full day of game drives, running on about 6 total hours of bad sleep in the past two nights. That being said, it was a HUGE success. Lots of really cool animals including giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, elephants, baboons, and many more. We even got our first glimpse (from some distance) of two lions, lounging in a tree.

After a quick nap before dinner, we had some great local cuisine at Tarangire Sopa Lodge and even got some fun entertainment with the staff performing a few traditional songs!

We can only hope the rest of the trip goes this well 😄 early start tomorrow, headed to the Serengeti (Ndutu) for the next two days!

  • Ndutu Region

    February 18 in Tanzania ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Today we had an early start to the day, and we were rewarded! Lions, cheetahs and a leopard by 10am 😄

When coming on this trip, Dayna said that the number 1 thing she wanted to see was a cheetah and today we got 4 of them! We also saw a wildebeest carcass get devoured in about 25 minutes flat, which was pretty insane. Speaking of wildebeests, we probably saw about 5000 of them today (no exaggeration)!

So many other highlights to mention, but I'll save those for later! Enjoy!

  • Ngorongoro Crater

    February 19 in Tanzania ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

What a day. Early wakeup this morning to head to Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive and lunch, and then onwards to our accommodation in Lake Manyara. Our driver told us the goal for the day was to complete our Big 5 viewing by finding a rhino, as we have seen lions, leopards, cape buffalo and elephants!

Long story short, we found 3 rhinos today! We also saw hippos, grey crowned cranes, and two very cute lion cubs! Enjoy the photos!

    February 20 in Tanzania ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Final day of safari today. After completing the big five yesterday and seeing most of the animals we hoped to see on the trip, the goal for today was to soak up every minute we got in the park.

Lake Manyara did not disappoint. We saw sleepy lions, baby giraffes, baboons, hippos, and elephants, and even a lone tortoise. Overall a great finishing day for our safari!

Bonus points for the first person who can tell me the correct number of giraffes in the last photo!

  • Rome Day 1

    February 22 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

We arrived in Rome late last night, but we had an early start to the day to see the Trevi Fountain before the crowds. Next we headed to the Colosseum for the tour we booked, which also included entry to Pallatine Hill and the Roman Forum! After a quick stop in at the hotel, we headed to an Irish pub to catch the gold medal hockey game. While the result was not what we were looking for, we had a good time nonetheless.

To finish the night, we headed to the Spanish Steps, and later went out for a pasta dinner. Check in on Day 2 to see what happens next!!

  • Rome Day 2

    February 23 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Unfortunately, the pasta dinner from last night came back to bite Matt and he ended up getting food poisoning in the middle of the night. We had tickets to get an early entry into the Pantheon this morning but missed it. As he was out of commission, Dayna had a solo adventure, visiting the Villa Borghese, and later walked over to the Pantheon to get a glimpse of its exterior.

Matt later rallied and we walked all the way to the Castel Sant'Angelo, stopping at the Pantheon and Piazza Navona along the way. We also got our first glimpse of St Peter's Square, which we will be visiting tomorrow!

  • Rome Day 3

    February 24 in Vatican City ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Today we had an early morning with a visit to Vatican City! We explored the Vatican Museums, St Peter's Basilica, and the Sistine Chapel. Very, very busy but interesting nonetheless 😄

We wandered the city for a few hours afterwards until our cooking class in the evening. We drank wine and learned how to make Tiramisu, Ravioli and Fettuccine. It was delightful!!Read more

  • Florence Day 1

    February 25 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Quick train in the morning to Florence, and then the Uffizi gallery in the afternoon. Many many many cool pieces of art in here, including some Michelangelo, Da Vinci and Raphael. A great day of exploring the streets, plazas, and bridges 😄

Also the second last photo is not a mistake, you may just need to zoom in on the text to read what the marks on the ceiling are.

  • Florence Day 2

    February 26 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Last day of the honeymoon. Visited Galleria dell’Accademia in the morning. The statue of David was absolutely amazing! We then tried to climb the Giotto Bell Tower but we only got about halfway up cause someone got too scared of how high we were getting (it was Matt). Spent the rest of the day wandering and doing some shopping because, why wouldn't we? Finished the day with a sunset visit to Piazzale Michelangelo, and then got some Aperol Spritzes before a final dinner in Italy.

An unbelievable trip of a lifetime comes to an end as tomorrow is a long travel day home. We will truly treasure everything we got to experience across these two weeks and will most likely be dreaming of the next time we can visit again!
