The Opening of Hidden Valley
According to family history, in 1936, just months before Joshua Tree National Monument was established by President Franklin Roosevelt, Bill Keys blasted the opening through which you have passed into Hidden Valley. Because the valley had been secluded for so long, the native bunch grass was lush and plentiful. Lava created these giant boulders. When it cooled it cracked and created granite. The softer ground surrounding eroded away leaving boulder piles that are fun to climb on.

Some top level golf at the Pete Dye Mountain Course. Plenty of balls were launched into the rocks, most bounced back. I was -1 through 1, highlight of the round. We’re in a beer desert here but found a local IPA.Read more

Actor Dick Curtis started up the town in 1946 as an 1880s themed live-in Old West living, breathing motion-picture set. The town was designed to provide a place for production companies to enjoy while also using their businesses and homes in movies.
Pioneertown's founders intended the area to be a residential area with Mane street acting as both a movie set and the towns commercial district.Read more

Took the tram to the top. Courtney was terrified the whole entire ride. But made up for it with a nice hike and some uno beers. Met some nice Belgians from Ghent on the way down.
