  • Mini micro piggies

    2024年12月24日, 日本 ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

    Today was AMAZING! 😍😍
We got to spend the morning with about 12 little piggies. But one was a bit bigger and he liked to sit on Frog and dad.
We had to sit on the floor with a blanket over us. One ran over to me and piddled on me! Naughty piggy! There were 2 tiny spotty ones that would not leave each other's sides. I loved them so much and this was the best cafe we have been to. I am thinking we should get a pet piggy.
We stayed for an hour but I wanted to stay forever.
And then guess what we had to do... Another temple. It was all gold and it was actually really beautiful. Our house would look good covered in gold in Alawa! The sun made the temple really shine and it looked like a beautiful jewel.
We had a super special dinner at the markets - Wagyu steak. It tastes really yummy and I wouldn't mind eating it all the time. I think it was a bit expensive though, like hundreds of dollars. I wonder why it's so much more expensive??? It was a bit red in the middle but I still gobbled it down.

  • An icy cold Christmas 🎄

    2024年12月25日, 日本 ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We put our Christmas hats on and celebrated Christmas in Japan. We opened our presents and my favourite was my Japan Hello Kitty duffle bag. Santa left us a note on the door telling us that our gifts will be in Darwin. Will just have to wait a bit longer.
Me and Frog organised a treasure hunt for mumma and dadda Grinch. They had to read riddles to find their gifts. We talked to Pappy and Florrie and I missed them more today.
And of course we had to go to a shrine on Christmas day. I thought we should have gone to an amusement park!
The temple looked very red, maybe a Christmas Temple after all! The bamboo forest part was ok though. There must have been at least 1000 red pillars that we walked through - they just kept going on and on and on.
Luckily there was a strawberry smoothie with soft Japanese ice cream on top waiting for me at the end of the walk- yummy yummy! The Japanese sure know how to make good ice cream. They must use special milk from special ice cream cows. Between the ice cream cows and the Wagyu cows, they seem to have gotten it right!.
We did a fancy buffet dinner and I did like the spaghetti with lots of parmesan cheese. The steak was pretty good, a bit raw for my liking but I did eat it all.
My Christmas in Japan was not my favourite because I missed my friends. And here we had to go to another temple! No temples in Darwin on Christmas day

  • Choo choo train on the river

    2024年12月26日, 日本 ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

We had a train ride that was really fun today because we were on a train with no windows. It was a bit chilly with no windows but it was a pretty hot day at 13 degrees today. We went through about 5 dark tunnels and were right next to a river. When we finished our train ride we then went on a boat ride. It was a small boat and we got to sit at the very front. I got a few splashes of water on me and it was freezing!
We had to go through some rapids and it made us go really fast. One was a 2 metre drop! It was a bit long and I did fall asleep for a few minutes at one stage.
I enjoyed it and it was good to do something different .
We walked through a Bamboo Forrest and we saw some trains whiz past us.
Dinner was so good tonight. We found a sushi train with a huge tv that your ordered from. My favourite food was probably the beef sushi. I only had 1, probably should of had 10. I might go back for more.

  • A day of adorable dogs

    2024年12月27日, 日本 ⋅ 🌙 4 °C

We decided today was a shopping day, best to leave dad at home.
But before we shopped we went to the best dog cafe in the world. They had teacup poodles and Pomeranians. There was one little poodle called Anna and she was a micro teacup poodle. She was so small, the size of an adults hand and so cute. It was the best half an hour and especially because there was no one else there yet. There was one naughty one that wouldn't stop chirping. I did think about how we could bring a few home, which would actually be really easy.
I loved shopping after this. Of course a quick trip into Daiso. I also got some snow boots for our next skiing adventure. I can't see me wearing them in Darwin though!
One of our best days today- shopping and puppies, a perfect combination!

  • Super snow in Kyoto

    2024年12月28日, 日本 ⋅ ❄️ 2 °C

Today was our last day in Kyoto. Sushi train for lunch and it was yum yum yum. Today I liked the plain rice balls with tepanyaki dipping sauce. It goes on like a conveyor belt and it slides in on the runway to your table. It is so much fun to have super sushi train.
It was my idea to then have a playground afternoon. I did some research on my phone to find one close but it was 6.3km away so we took a bus for about 45mins!
The playground was heaps of fun but the best thing about the day was that it started to SNOW! I ran and tried to eat some of it. Not quite enough to fill my belly though.
Frog and I loved playing in the maze and we were there for ages. After a couple of hours we left on the bus home.
Our favourite ramen place was calling our name last night so we had to go. Lots of gyoza and humongous bowls of ramen that we struggle to finish. Delicious dinner.

  • You want snow, I got snow!

    2024年12月29日〜30日, 日本 ⋅ ❄️ -1 °C

We left Kyoto today- I really liked Kyoto especially the cute animal cafes! We had to have a big travel day to get to Nagano which is quite a long way from Kyoto. The bullet train was heaps of fun- so fast! I reckon it went 300km an hour!
It was dark when we got to Nagano but not dark enough to stop us from seeing some snow flakes drop from the sky! Snow is so cool! Imagine if it snowed in Darwin- no one would have the right clothes! At the moment I am thinking 13 degrees is warm! I will melt when I get home. We watched a man making some soba noodles which i really enjoyed. Lots of rolling, lots of chopping. I love to eat them so I wanted to watch how they are made too.
The next day we left Nagano, didn't really do much there but we will be going back soon. We had to get a bus to Hakuba for some serious snow time.
When we arrived I could not believe my eyes! I nearly started to cry I was so excited- but my tears might freeze and turn into ice its so cold! There was SO MUCH SNOW! It was literally metres high everywhere. Frog and I just wanted to run and jump in it! There are heaps of kids staying at our hotel which is great and they speak English. We went outside all together and just played and played and played! It was dark but we still had a snowball fight!
I can't wait to snowboard tomorrow. I think it might be a bit like surfing, but who knows! I am not a big fan of having to wear all of these clothes though- about 45 layers each day it feels like.
I am ready for some ski fun tomorrow! I will probably be pretty good I reckon.

  • Snow fireworks

    2024年12月31日, 日本 ⋅ ❄️ 1 °C

Today was our first day of snowboarding. I was really excited to get out and try it.I have never been on a snowboard before, but I will be fine I think! The only time was when I was 2 and dad carried me down the hill.
We had to walk up to the slopes and rent some gear first- you have to wear lots of clothes (yuck!) And you have to have lots of equipment. You have special boots that click onto the snowboard.
It was snowing pretty heavy but we wanted to go out anyway. We all started together on the small hill- it was pretty hard work! I didn't like having to walk up the hill every time.
I kind of got the hang of it a little bit and dad helped me.
Frog was pretty good and he could go down the hill without falling down. I fell a few times, and so did mum.
It was hard to see with the snow falling so heavy and it was also pretty cold. Everything was so white when we walked home and there was just snow everywhere! I also had an onsen at our hotel which is a big hot bath that you have to share with other people. It's a bit weird because you are supposed to all be nude. It is also really hot. I kept my clothes on and had a quick bath and luckily by myself.
Today is New Years Eve so we all stayed up until midnight. We have made some friends at the hotel so just before midnight we all walked up to the ski fields and they had a little fireworks show. It was so cool! I loved watching it. The last day of the year was awesome, but pretty cold!

  • Super snowboarding

    2025年1月1日〜2日, 日本 ⋅ ☁️ 2 °C

The last 2 days we have just been in the snow ❄️ all day! We just get up out of our snuggly warm bed and go straight up there. But it does take a while to get all of our gear on! We had a sunny day and it felt nice and warm and I even took my ski jacket off. We went into a kids area to practice some more and I also went on a tube down the hill. I also went on a toboggan. I am getting better on the snow board. I had to learn how to stop before dad would take me on the chair lift up to the top. So I practiced heaps and nailed it. So dad got me a ticket and went up. You just sit still all the way up and at the top of the hill you have to jump off. I felt so excited to be at the top. It was a long way down but I did it! I went up 2 times this day.
I have made a really good friend called Edie who is also staying at our hotel. We played together all night.
Our next day of snowboarding was the best! I went up on the lift 6 times with Edie. We snowboarded together all day. I kept on getting better and better. I can do a 180 I think.
On the way up to the top on our last go, I dropped my board off the chairlift! Oops! Frog went down to get it and brought it back up to me. Next time I will definitely make sure it is clicked onto my boot.
We had an onsen whilst everyone was still out snowboarding.
I like snowboarding a lot and hope I can keep doing it!

  • Sliding down the snowy slopes

    2025年1月3日〜6日, 日本 ⋅ ☁️ -1 °C

We have spent the last few days just snowboarding and having the best time ever. I have really improved and I can properly snowboard now! At the beginning it was pretty hard but I practiced everyday and I got a little bit better everytime. I was able to catch the chairlift to the top of the mountain with my friend Edie and we came down together heaps of times.
When you get to the top you have to jump off the chair and quickly do your boot up. And then it's one fun ride down the mountain.
I went on a few different runs but my favourite was the first one that I went on. By the end of the week I had mastered all the green runs. Dad was proud of me.
We really just did the same thing everyday whilst we were in Hakuba. Just snowboarding and then at night I hung out with my great friend Edie. We just played and chilled together. We also had lots of onsens together. One night we ran outside in the snow with our togs on! We did a snow angel on the ground and it was FREEZING! We jumped straight into the onsen after this.
Snowboarding was heaps of fun and I was really happy to be here for a whole week. Our lodge that we stayed in was awesome and I loved sitting in the massage chair in the lounge each day. I also loved having lunch at the skifield every day with Edie. Our favourite was 2 Pepsi, chips, beef and rice bowl and a slice of apple pie! Everyday the same and everyday we loved it!
It was so amazing having so much snow around us and I especially loved it when it was a sunny day, but there was still heaps of snow everywhere. I loved walking through the crunchy snow, throwing snowballs, making slides and just being in it for every second of the day.
We have never really been in snow before, but I would be happy to come back to this place again! Watching the snow falling from the sky is really cool.
I think that this week might be the funnest time I have ever had. I was so lucky to meet Edie and spend the week on the slopes with her and so so lucky to just be in the snow.
I give the last week 1000 out of 10! It was so exciting to try something new- even if it was a bit hard to start with.
Dad was really good and taught me how to snowboard. Frog was amazing and went right up to the top in the trees. That would be way too scary for me.
Snowboarding is the BEST! We were all about bit sad when we had to leave on the bus today. We caught a bus back to Nagano for a couple of days and back to a city with no snow. It was raining and still pretty cold. Mum took me to Starbucks for an earl grey tea. I wasn't the biggest fan, but mum drank it. She got a matcha latte that was bright green! She said it tasted like a cup of hot seaweed. I guess you could say it wasn't our cup of tea!

  • Silly little snow monkeys

    2025年1月7日, 日本 ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Today we decided to go see some monkeys. Definitely not my choice, I still have beef from the last monkeys that tried to steal my icecream. We took a bus and then we had to walk through the snow for 45mins. It was through the forest with very tall trees. We saw a geiser which is a water spout out of the ground that vomits up water and steam. I would touch it but it's probably boiling.
When we got to the Monkeys I was a bit scared at first so I had to hide behind dad. I gave them lots of side eye to let them know I was watching them.
They are lucky Monkeys because they get to sit in a hot bath all day. When they are in the water they sit and pick each other's fleas.
There were some adorable babies that also had a swim.
When it was feeding time I was like 'I am out of here!' They screamed at each other and tackled each other.
When we walked back through the forest it started to really snow which was cool.
We then stopped for the best hot chocolate I have ever had.
Although the Monkeys were a bit scary I did like going and seeing them a bit. I don't really like monkeys though.
That's all we did for today. It was really cold in Nagano so we stayed inside our room in the evening.

  • Happy little hedgehogs in Tokyo

    2025年1月8日〜9日, 日本 ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

We had a travel day on the 8th. I do not like travel days. We had to catch a train from Nagano to Tokyo. It was really hard work with the bags when we got to Tokyo. It was BUSY! We finally made our way to our Tokyo house and we were glad to just dump these bags. We had a good curry for dinner- we always have a curry, which is good because I love a curry!
Today, which is January 9th, we started our Tokyo adventure. We are staying in a nice quiet area, in a nice laneway.
We caught the train to Shibuya this morning and we went to a hedgehog Cafe! I loved it! I think they are so cute. We got to hold the hedgehogs, but only 2 of them really liked that. The 2 that liked to be held were not hedgehogs but a very similar animal from Madagascar.
The hedgehogs could fit in my hand and they were spiky as you would imagine. But they were tiny. I had to use a pair of gloves for some of them. They also had tiny mice that I really liked playing with. We stayed for an hour. Very cute animals.
We walked through Shibuya and found a sushi train. I had some roast beef sushi and udon noodles.
We did some shopping after and guess what I found.... Daiso! I just love Daiso. Mum left me and frog to shop by ourselves and we did a pretty good job at spending some money. Frog was my personal assistant and pushed the trolley for me.
And then mum was feeling generous and let us play at the toy machines. You put coins in and you get toys out. Better than the claw machines because you always get something. I got a Mt Fuji toy, a sumo man, a stitch toy and brother got some snowboards. Dad hates these machines.
We wandered through the streets, and the lights all came on as it was getting dark. We also crossed the famous Shibuya crossing quite a few times. I think that 100000 people cross every day it is so busy!
Day 1 in Tokyo was amazing. Hedgehogs, sushi, Daiso, toy machines and a new sticker for my surfboard! Frog said I can have his old board when he gets his new one.

  • Walking through water

    2025年1月10日, 日本 ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

We went on a surprise day- I was begging to know where it was, in case it was a temple! We went on a driverless train and sat up the front looking out the window.
We got to Team Lab Planet and I still didnt know what this place was. When we went in we had to listen to a video about the rules. I found out it was a big art exhibition. The first area was the GARDEN section- it was a room filled with flowers from the ceiling. They were moving up and down. I walked through the room and it made me feel happy to be with all the flowers. The walls, floor and ceiling were made of mirrors. I took some great videos.
The next room was big giant silver pebbles and they were egg shaped. I liked the mist.
The next area was WATER. We had to take our shoes off and we started to walk through a dark room up a waterfall. The water wasn't too cold. We walked into a light area that felt like space. It was like crystals everywhere. Another area of the water section was the giant ball area. A bunch of giant balloons that you could touch and push around. There was a koi pond that had water up to our knees but the fish weren't real, they were projected onto the surface of the water.
We loved it so much that Frog and I went through twice.
Today was so much fun and I would definitely go back here.
We walked to Shinjuku in the evening and saw Godzilla. He is a big statue on top of a hotel. Shinjuku was really busy with lots of lights. We had karage and gyoza.

  • The massive markets!🍓

    2025年1月11日, 日本 ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

Mum tells us everyday how cold it is and when we get outside it's not as cold as she says. She says this so we put warm clothes on- which I hate doing.
Today we went to a food market called Tsukiji. It was VERY busy and there were thousands of people there. There was lots of sashimi but I didn't have any. I did try some delicious A5 wagyu steak though! We picked out a tray of meat and the man cooked it for us.
We also got some strawberries, some were red and some were white. A tray cost us $10, and that has 5 strawberries on it. Some trays cost like $50! The white ones are very special.
I also bought some new chopsticks with a cat on them- perfect for me!.
We walked around for ages just looking at the different food. It was all pretty expensive through.
We chilled out and got some snacks from 7-11. There are lots of lollies for me to try! I am doing my best to get through as many as I can. Dad calls me Spendy McSpendy because I always want a treat!.
I got to choose dinner and of course I chose curry! Mum was not impressed and said- no more curry, only Japanese food!
I feel tired tonight, but it was a fun day out.

  • Heaven in Harajuku 💗

    2025年1月12日, 日本 ⋅ 🌙 6 °C

We woke up today and I didn't know what was going on because mum said it was a surprise. First we went to a park that had a big shrine... and you know how I feel about temples and shrines. Just too many of them! But we only stayed for a short time. After this we walked to Harajuku! Heaven for me and Hell for dad. The minute we walked in I oved this place. The first shop I stepped into I bought some shoes. Sparkly, purple and huge soles that makes me tall. Lots of girls in Japan wear these shoes. And I got a bargain, only $20. I got a huge cotton candy and I devoured it all. Delicious. We walked and looked at so many shops that I loved. I found a shop with the world's cutest Japanese outfit, so of course I had to get it. I can't wait to wear it, when it's not so cold.
Harajuku was just so colourful and it made me feel like the happiest girl in the world. I love the style of the clothes.
Mum won't let me wear my new top out in Japan because it is so cold.
I wish that I could go back to Harajuku one day soon!

  • Hakone was hectic!

    2025年1月13日, 日本 ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

What a big day! We jumped on a train to Hakone, which took an hour. And then another train and it was doing a lot of zig zagging and changing tracks. We got to the top of the hill and ate some hotdogs! I had an icecream that was delicious -made from Japanese milk, from Japanese cows, from a Japanese farm! It was the bomb!
We found a capsule toy machine and we got some cool key rings.
Next was a funicular train. And then a Gondola!
Let me tell you about some eggs! I was a bit worried because it stunk in the sulphur valley- like farts.
But we tried the boiled eggs and they were so yummy I had to get some more. The shells turn black which is pretty weird.
We saw Mt Fuji from the Gondola and also from the egg place. Mt Fuji was beautiful and it is a volcano but with snow on it! One of the coldest volcanoes in the world. The boys can climb it, but no thanks for me!
I wasn't really scared in the Gondola because they felt bigger than usual. Maybe I am getting used to them.
I have never been on a pirate ship until today. But there were a lot of people on it. Should have got them to walk the plank.
Pretty cool to be on a pirate ship though.
It was a fun day- different with all the different transport. My favourite was the boring old romance train.

  • Another day, another DAISO 💗

    2025年1月14日, 日本 ⋅ 🌙 7 °C

Today was shrine day.... they must be coming to an end soon! It was an old shrine and looked like the other ones we have been to. We did see some cherry blossom trees🌸🌳 with flowers which was a bit weird but great to see.
    So many people everywhere though.
The boys had enough and went home but mum and I went back to Harajuku! My favourite! We tried a special crepe that is famous from Harajuku. And thank God we found a Daiso- haven't been for a while so stocked up on some essentials.
We looked at lots more shops and I bought a few cool Harajuku things- an ear cuff earing, some Karomi stuff, a name tag for my school bag and just took in all the good Harajuku air! I love coming here.
Mum and I caught the train home and found a cool dinner place near our house. You order the food from a vending machine (udon noodles for me) and you take the ticket to the counter. It was very tasty. Oishi!
It's hard being out at night, we are all so tired and it's pretty cold.

  • Xiao Xiao the giant Panda in Tokyo

    2025年1月17日, 日本 ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

Today we went to the Tokyo Zoo. I had been wanting to go to the zoo to see the Pandas, rhinos and polar bears. It was pretty cheap to get in- free for us! We went to the Pandas first and we had to line up for about 45mins. They are the most popular attraction at the zoo and everyone wanted to see them. When we got to the front of the line we had 1 minute to take photos. His name was Xiao Xiao. He looked like a big fluffy teddy bear and he was eating bamboo. When I saw him I wanted to cuddle him.
After Xiao Xiao we saw the red Pandas, the rhinos and the hippos. But it was really bad because they had no room in their enclosures. No one was looking after them like they do at the Australia Zoo. I felt a bit annoyed and mad and sad because they shouldn't be in a tiny enclosure. It was also really cold today so I felt sad for them outside in the cold. Sometimes zoos aren't that good.
The zoo wasn't as great as I thought but the Pandas were pretty cool.
At home Frog and I made some gummy sushi lollies. It was heaps of fun to make it but it didn't taste great. Another super super Japanese day.
