Willkommen auf Providencia 🇨🇴

Nach einem wieder einmal fulminanten Frühstück von Rainer ging es für uns um 10:30 Uhr mit dem Dingi an Land. Nachdem die letzte Fuhre angekommen war, brachen wir zunächst um 11:00 Uhr auf eine Gemeinschaftswanderung zum 'Morgan's Head' am nordwestlichen Rand der Insel auf. Ein - wie sich noch herausstellen wird - treuer Begleiter folgte uns auf unserem Weg und bewirkte eine wahre Fürsorgewelle bei allen Schüler*innen. Kurzerhand mit dem Namen 'Timo' versehen, ging 'unser' Hund über Stock und Stein mit uns bis zum Ziel unseres Vorhabens. Dort fanden wir eine wunderschöne Aussicht auf eine nahegelegene Bucht vor und legten erst einmal eine ca. 40-minütige Pause ein. Einige nutzten diese Zeit, um ihr Lunchpaket zu verspeisen oder die Umgebung noch etwas zu erkunden 🚶🏽
Danach ging es wieder zurück ins Dorf. Auf dem Weg unterhielt ich mich noch mit einem Local, der wissen wollte, woher wir kamen und was es mit all dem auf sich hatte. Im Dorf angekommen gingen Lisa, Nicola und ich in ein gut klimatisiertes Café, tranken einen Smoothie und aßen dazu süßes, örtliches Gebäck. Wir beschlossen uns für den Tag Roller zu mieten, um die Insel (Inselrundfahrt etwa 40 min.) auf eigene Faust zu erkunden. Währenddessen hatten die Kids free-shore-leave-Zeit 🆓
Für eine 24 h Ausleihe inkl. Fuel bezahlten wir pro Person etwa 22€. Also ging es für Kaspar, Maxim, Nicola, Lisa und mich erst einmal Richtung Süden. Nach einigen Stopps und etwa 30 min Fahrt erreichten wir die Südspitze der Insel und betraten den 'Playa Manzanillo'. Der Strand strahlte durch ein paar kleinere Bars mit der passenden Musik einen absoluten 'Reggae-Vibe' aus. Wir gingen den Strand entlang bis zu 'Roland's Restaurant&Bar'. Dort nutzten wir das freie WLan für ein bisschen Recherche und entspannten uns dabei in den vorhandenen Hängematten. Auch unsere Crew kam irgendwann dazu und genoss die Zeit am Strand in vollen Zügen 🧘🏽
Kurz vor unserer Abfahrt kamen wir noch mit Roland ins Gespräch und fragten ihn, ob er für den morgigen Tag eine Inselrundfahrt für die gesamte Besatzung organisieren könne (er bietet ebenfalls Schnorchel- und Bootstouren an). Wir gaben ihm unsere Kontaktdaten und er wollte sich im Laufe des Abends melden. So ging es gegen kurz vor 18 Uhr mit dem Roller an der Westküste der Insel entlang wieder zurück zu unserem Ausgangsort. Nach einem kurzen Einkaufsstopp ging es dann mit dem Dingi zurück aufs Schiff und für mich an die Abrechnung der letzten Wochen 💸

Welcome to Providencia 🇨🇴

After another brilliant breakfast from Rainer, we went ashore in the dinghy at 10:30 am. After the last load had arrived, we set off at 11.00 am on a group hike to 'Morgan's Head' on the north-western edge of the island. As it turned out, a faithful companion followed us on our way and caused a veritable wave of care among all the students. Quickly given the name 'Timo', 'our' dog walked with us over hill and dale to our destination. There we found a beautiful view of a nearby bay and took a break for about 40 minutes. Some used this time to eat their packed lunch or to explore the surrounding area a little more 🚶🏽
Then we headed back to the village. On the way, I had a chat with a local who wanted to know where we had come from and what all this was about. Once we arrived in the village, Lisa, Nicola and I went to an air-conditioned café, drank a smoothie and ate sweet local pastries. We decided to hire scooters for the day to explore the island on our own (a 40-minute tour of the island). Meanwhile, the kids had free-shore-leave time 🆓
We paid around €22 per person for a 24-hour rental including fuel. So Kaspar, Maxim, Nicola, Lisa and I first headed south. After a few stops and a 30-minute drive, we reached the southern tip of the island and entered 'Playa Manzanillo'. The beach radiated an absolute reggae vibe thanks to a few small bars with the right music. We walked along the beach to 'Roland's Restaurant&Bar'. There we used the free WiFi for a bit of research and relaxed in the hammocks provided. Our crew also joined us at some point and enjoyed their time on the beach to the full 🧘🏽
Shortly before we left, we got talking to Roland and asked him if he could organize an island tour for the whole crew tomorrow (he also offers snorkelling and boat tours). We gave him our contact details and he said he would get back to us later that evening. Shortly before 6 p.m., we took the scooter along the west coast of the island back to our starting point. After a quick shopping stop, we took the dinghy back to the boat and I got to work on the accounts for the last few weeks 💸

My personal highlight:
The shared scooter ride around the island as well as wind, speed and freedom 🛵💨🏝️
