• Day 18 Boat trip to Satang Island

    August 2, 2025 in Malaysia ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

Once again early start and sadly the weather was not on our side. Grey , cloudy and rain just like home 😉 the only difference it is still so hot. Today we where excited we where hopeful to see delphines and turtles on our boat and island tour. We Cruised along the Santubong & Salak River and mangrove forests of Kuching Wetlands National Park on the way to the Satang Island. We knew there would be a chance to spot the elusive and rare Irrawaddy dolphin as we cruised to Satang Island and we were very lucky. It was perfect to watch this beautiful animals who work together with the local fishermans.

Satang island is part of the Talang-Satang National Park and a turtle nesting ground. We were looking forward to relax on the white sandy beach but sadly the weather got very bad and we had to find shelter. The most exciting thing of course was the baby turtles. The Turtle Hatchery on Satang Island provides an introduction to the conservation work being done to help these highly endangered sea creatures.
After learning about the conservation and seeing the baby turtles we did managed to go
Snorkel over the coral and marine life found in the shallow waters surrounding the island sadly the view was not very good as the weather was not the best. But it did gave us amazing clouds for our photos ☁️.
