5-Tage Tour Orkney Isles - Tag 3

An Tag drei ging es zu Maes Howe und Skara Brae. Darauf hatte ich mich sehr gefreut. Beides hatte ich bereits fünf Jahre zuvor besucht. Und ich fand es so interessant und beeindruckend, dass ich noch einmal dorthin wollte.

Maes Howe und Skara Brae sind so beeindruckend, da dort Menschen vor fünftausend Jahren gelebt haben, ihre Toten begraben haben und Religion betrieben.

Auch die Standing Stones of Stennes haben wir besichtigt, die ich noch genauso in Erinnerung hatte.

Bei Skara Brae liegt Skaill House, das ich auch gleich mitbesucht habe.

Später haben wir uns dann die Umgebung angeschaut und sind viel umhergelaufen.

Dann ging es zu einem Museum, dass aus einem Haus bestand, in dem noch vor nicht allzulanger Zeit jemand tatsächlich gewohnt hat. Es zeigt die traditionelle Lebensweise. Das Leben war sehr hart und wenig komfortabel, aber die Menschen haben gesünder gegessen, Nachbarn haben aufeinander aufgepasst und neben der Familie war die Gemeinschaft sehr wichtig. Auch wenn sie bettelarm waren, waren sie doch glücklich.

Danach haben wir die Ruine von Earls Palace in Birsay besucht. Dann waren wir bei der Brough of Birsay. Da gerade Ebbe war, konnten wir über den Meeresboden ans andere Ufer zu Fuß gelangen.

Am späten Nachmittag sind wir dann noch zu einem anderen Steinzeitdorf gefahren. Das war so beeindruckend und man konnte in die Gebäude hineinlaufen.

Abends im Restaurant gab es dann wieder Fish&Chips. Mmh, lecker! 😋

On day three we went to Maes Howe and Skara Brae. I had been looking forward to this very much. I had already visited both five years before. And I found it so interesting and impressive that I wanted to go there again.

Maes Howe and Skara Brae are so impressive because people lived there five thousand years ago, buried their dead and practiced religion.

We also visited the Standing Stones of Stennes, which I remembered the same way.

Near Skara Brae is Skaill House, which I also visited.

Later we looked at the surroundings and walked around a lot.

Then we went to a museum that consisted of a house where someone actually lived not too long ago. It shows the traditional way of life. Life was very hard and not very comfortable, but people ate healthier, neighbors looked out for each other, and besides family, community was very important. Even if they were destitute, they were happy.

After that we visited the ruins of Earls Palace in Birsay. Then we went to the Brough of Birsay. Since it was low tide, we were able to walk across the seabed to the other shore.

In the late afternoon we went to another stone age village. It was so impressive and you could walk into the buildings.

In the evening in the restaurant we had fish&chips again. Mmh, delicious! 😋Read more
