We woke up very early

Last timmies for 15 days. On the bright side, there were no drill bits or bullet casings in my carry-on this time so we’re off to a good start .
Leaving Newark

Honolulu Airport

We have arrived! However the number 29 represents the baggage carousel number which is having technical difficulty and won’t spit out any luggage. Good thing we’re on vacation...
Hyatt Waikiki

We finally arrived at our home for the next 3 days, spitting distance from the beach. I am no longer embarrassed to say I own a selfie stick!
More beach walk

We are all very tired, and some even cranky. Funny the youngest has the least energy. We ate at a beach food stand, and Peter had his first (and not last) ‘Shave Ice’. Think slushie, but icier,Weiterlesen

Almost late for our inter-island flight!

We barely made it, but a kind agent directed us away from the really long and stalled security line on 2nd floor, to an empty line on 1st floor. They must have shamrock’s in Hawaii.
Arrived at AirBnB outside Hilo

Our home for the next 3 days. No air conditioner, but fans and louvred windows everywhere. The only thing interrupting the crash of the surf is the occasional airplane (we are on the flight path forWeiterlesen
Akaka Falls

Not really a hike, as it’s all paved, but a nice rainforest walk of about 1km to see Akaka Falls, which is 445 feet tall. We walked past 70 foot bamboo, banyan trees and lots of jungle. TheWeiterlesen
Black sand beach

These pictures aren’t black and white, but the waves are white and the sand is black.
Morning sunrise

Some of us woke up early.
Helicopter Tour

I’ll let Caroline fill in the details...
N sat next to the pilot up front, Peter was in the middle back next to me at the window. We flew over extensive lava flows, still steaming here and there,Weiterlesen
After the ride...

Posing with the choppa!
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

After our helicopter tour this morning, we drove down to HVNP for some of the ‘Volcanoes’ part of the ‘Battleships and Volcanoes’ tour. After a little hiking the trails we’ve hit up theWeiterlesen
Lava: old and cold

We hike around the park, there are old lava flows, devastation trail, and a drive all the way down to the coast.
Have a wonderful time
