  • Day 37

    Genoa

    July 7, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Genoa was a lovely city along the way, with all the palaces and the feel of its rich merchant past. It was the day with our lowest energy levels and moods - the most important is that we survived this one. Alisa got her first cocktail - the Strawberry Caipiroska Zero.Read more

  • Day 36

    Rome and Civitavecchia

    July 6, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

The eternal city Rome welcomed us, but that was not an easy task: we had to walk from the port of Civitavecchia to the train station, wait for 40 minutes for the train and drive 1 hour to Roma Termini. At noon we were just walking past the train station to start our sightseeing tour. Luckily Rome is an open air museum and we could enjoy the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Vittoriano Memorial, the Parthenon and the Fontana de Trevi in a rather short time. Alisa was very well behaved and helped us to get quickly through the heat and direct sun exposure, while Elijas stayed in the ship with grandparents. We rewarded ourselves with some real Italian ice cream, so nice that Alisa forced herself to eat her big portion. We managed to finish our tour just in time for our train back to Civitavecchia and then back to the cruise!Read more

  • Day 35

    Palermo

    July 5, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Next stop on the way: Palermo. Sicily's biggest city surprised us with some impressive sights, such as the opera, the cathedral, the church with the dogs in memory to the victims of the Mafia, or the Royal Palace. There was also a huge street market, where even motorbikes went through - a detail of the sometimes happening chaos in the city. We had lunch in a supposedly fancy restaurant which was definitely overrated, with the star dish being some raw prawns with mushroom-filled ravioli. The walk back was tricky for everyone, either on the sun or through big roads.Read more

  • Day 34

    Cagliari

    July 4, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

The first stop of the cruise was on Sardinia's main city Cagliari, which the guides told us meant "the Castle". We went out from the ship to walk around the city. The old town was all on the hillsides and there were stairs everywhere. The heat was quite strong but we managed to make it and return to the ship for lunch, so we could enjoy some program in the afternoon, such as the soap bubble party with Peppa Pig.Read more

  • Day 32

    Start of our cruise!

    July 2, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Finally the time came to fulfill Elijas' dreams - and also that of his grandparents: to go together on the cruise ship. It was so overwhelming and hard to realise that such a big ship could be real. The water park on the top decks was a success and Elijas went also exploring around all corners. The crew was also very kind and helping us with his food allergies. There were many possibilities for entertainment, including football billiard or minigolf, events with Peppa Pig and dances. We even got to know Peppa better as we had lunch with her and the kids got her signature and little George pigs as gifts.Read more

  • Day 28

    Segur de Calafell

    June 28, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

After all our road trip and the lovely family gathering, we headed to Segur de Calafell for a relaxing beach stay. There we could chill a few days, enjoy or fight for the cartoons and the amusements, and let Neringa have her job interview. After that, we also finished our stay with a water splash at Aqualeon, where Elijas went out of his comfort zone by trying different water slides.Read more

  • Day 25

    Family gathering in Aragon

    June 25, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

We left Pamplona rather smoothly, despite the strict timing constraints to access the city center by car. We drove our way to Cadrete, close to Zaragoza, where we had agreed to meet for lunch with our relatives. We went for lunch to Restaurant El tío Genaro and after that to our relatives home. We spent a lovely time there catching up, swimming and playing with the kids. Alisa got also to play with the cats, as she had been looking for a long time. We also had a lovely surprise celebration of our 10 years wedding Anniversary, very sweet from everyone and we hope to find many more occasions to meet up. That was a fantastic way to bring our road trip close to its end!Read more

  • Day 23

    Trip to Pamplona

    June 23, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

After a cryfull and hectic morning (that’s what happens when there are some other important things one need to take care of, this case it was Neringa taking her test for a new contract at the EEA), David with the kids managed to exit the hotel for a play hour in the hotel’s playground and a morning swim. After Neringa’s business, we started the trip to Pamplona. We stopped for lunch in a village called Alegria (which means happiness) and we found not much happiness there. In one of the best rated restaurants (4.5 in Google) we were welcomed by pointing at a table for two, followed with a surprised question whether the kids will also eat. Then with a sigh the waitress prepared us the table for four but appetite for that place was gone. So we decided to leave and find a worse rated restaurant 😅
So we did and had a nothing special menu del día. Then some more road and unloading in the Center of Pamplona under special permission to enter the city for 30 min not earlier than 17h00…
The evening programme was the best, meeting the old dear friend from Brussels time Isabel and her beautiful family. She was the reason for us to visit Pamplona and she will be at the centre of our programme for the coming days.

  • Day 22

    Parque del Cabárceno

    June 22, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Cantabria has great nature, and some rainy weather too! That's what we got today - we visited the animals at Parque del Cabárceno, a large zoo where you need to drive around and also get the cabin car around to see the animals from above. We started from the snakes - which Alisa seemed to love, hopefully not more than dogs or cats. We drove around seeing gorillas, tigers and other animals. The best experience was nevertheless the bird show, with eagles, hawks and voltors demonstrating their flight and preying abilities. It was simply amazing and we got plenty of impressions with the kids.Read more

  • Day 21

    Bufones de Pria, beach, Pool

    June 21, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

It seems that the bad weather has contributed to our mood and ambitions of how much we wish to see. After the checkout at Cangas de Onis, we decided to give it another try to Bufones de Pria at high tide to see if the water would be splashing this time. As the morning was not stormy the water fountains were barely seen, but it was still exciting for the kids. Alisa was less keen to see it as she seemed to be a little afraid. But we were lucky that there were some cows in the area so she got entertained. And then the farmer came to feed the cows and he showed a 2 days old calf, very special treat for Alisa.
After this, we went to explore another wild beach ‘Playa de Cue’. It was very nice as we, parents, could enjoy watching the powerful waves while the kids had to their pond to play. The only downside was the temperature of 18 degrees, so the parents did not dare splashing there with the kids…

We got hungry and were planing to eat in the village of the beach but we were not so convinced that with the offer (which looked like smelly bars, not suitable for the kids), so we hit the road to Llanes. After 2 rounds around the city trying to park the car, unsuccessfully, we hit the road again to find ourselves in a small villa with a fantastic restaurant ‘Casa Poli’ where we ate very well in a roustique kind of place, served kind waiters.

There was no more programme for the day except for arrival at our ‘fancy’ hotel Jardines Villaverde, in a village that seemed not to have any life, but having a 3 star Michelin star restaurant next to our hotel. We managed to resist the temptation to try their menu of over 200 euros per person without drinks.
We ended the day with a dip in the pool, some cartoons and an improvised sandwich dinner where Elijas for a generous monetary offer tried eating cucumber, then bell pepper, then a mandarin, without any success nor win.. but we call it a victory for us as he dared to lick all three things 🥳
