    It rained most of today but luckily eased off or stopped for most of the time we were outside.

    We left Ambleside and made our way to Kendal for our last night in the Lakes.

    The first stop was at Levens Hall, the home of the Bagot family and their ancestors for over 800 years. The family married into the Duke of Wellington's family after one of them served with him at the Battle of Waterloo and there are items on display in the house that belonged to the Duke and also Napoleon. It has an estate of 9500 acres and the manor house is dominated by the world's oldest topiary gardens.Read more
