    Yanchep National Park Campground

    25 maart, Australië ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Beautiful place for the night I found.
Was expecting to just have toilets here and was surprised to hear that there are hot showers and even a camp kitchen. Nice, I like it. I really need a shower after my Rottnest Island bicycle adventure.
And the wildlife is amazing as always.
And a nice sunset two. What could I ask...

  • Rottnest Island

    25 maart, Australië ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

I woke up at 6 am. Took it easy for a while before u had breakfast around 7 am.
I then packed up and left the campground at 8 am to drive to the harbour.
The ferry to Rottnest Island is leaving at 9 am. Normally it's just a 15 minute drive but it took me 30 minutes due to much traffic. Was starting to stress out because it's not so easy to find a parking place there. But I was so lucky to find one immediately.
Got a parking ticket, grabbed my stuff and walked to the ferry. Shortly after I arrived they started boarding.
What should be a perfect day with good condition was for my very bumpy.. I don't mind but I wonder how it is on a day with not so good conditions...
It took just a little bit more than 30 minutes over to Rottnest Island. Had a walk around the village first and saw a few Quokka here. I then went to Pedals & Flippers to rent a bicycle.
And then I was off on my 10 km loop around the island. Did not go to the far end. 10 km was already more than enough..
I saw some beautiful beaches, met some Quokka on the way and had a break on the beach at Salmon Bay.
All bays and beaches were super full and people were snorkeling like hell.
It's supposed to be 23 degrees but I think it was much warmer. Was sweating like hell but forgot my bikini so no swimming for me 🙈😅
But it's ok. I booked the 2:30 pm ferry back so I had just around 3 1/2 hours for my bicycle tour what was perfect for the loop.
When I came back to the settlement I still had some time over so I went to The Basin. On the way there I found 4 very active Quokka and got some really nice pictures 😍
The Basin was nice but the ocean was not so calm.
I returned the bike at 2 pm and had a slowly walk over to the harbour.
I am so exhausted from this trip I can't explain it! Luckily the bike are much better now than 5 years ago! No bruises this time!
The ferry ride back to Fremantle was smother this time. Arrived shortly past 3 pm and went to my car to leave the big city behind. To much traffic, to many people. Not what I like.
Have a good plan for tonight and the day tomorrow

  • Quokka

    25 maart, Australië ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

I found some Quokka in the Settlement. Just didn't take pictures from all of them.
    One at Parker Point.

Then done at the lighthouse but most of the. We're asleep except one.

And on the way back I found 4 Quokka under a tree on the way to The Basin and they were very active.

They are all sooo cute and they make me so happy to be around them.

  • Eco Dolphin Cruise

    24 maart, Australië ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

I went in the 12 o'clock Eco Dolphin Cruise.
No swim with the dolphins tour is going today but I have to see the dolphins!!!

Didn't take long to find some dolphins.
And we saw soo many. They were hanging around the cut and were having a good time. Some came really close to the boat as well 😍

There were even two quit new born calf's, probably only a few weeks old. That was sooooo lovely to see.

These are in shore bottlenose dolphins. They have around 150 dolphins visiting the bay regularly and around 50 permanent residents dolphins. The water here is only 4-8 m deep and they are the lazy dolphins here. Thy only dive around 10 m deep and for about 5 minutes. The off shore bottlenose dolphins can dive up to 300 m deep and stay up to 20 minutes under water.

During summer they eat around 8kg of fish and squid per day. In winter it's around 16 kg per day to keep them warm. They get around 2,5 - 3 m long and weight around 230kg.

As we were starting to drive back suddenly the dolphins started to jump out of the water and the big hunt was on. Sooooo amazing to see! Never seen something like that. Wow they were all hunting together.

  • Dolphin Discovery Center

    24 maart, Australië ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Went to the beach this morning hoping for some dolphin to pass by. Was actually lucky, one came closer but obviously was very busy hunting. And she obviously got a squid. Amazing to see a dolphin throwing around a squid for like minutes. They do it to break it apart because the squid are able to kill a dolphin if they hold their head together or get a tentacle over their breathing hole.
There was even a second dolphin joining the "game" the locals here call it Occy Hockey.

Went on the cruise then, see next post.

After the cruise I checked out the Dolphin Discovery Center.
They have some rescue turtles here. Loggerhead Turtles and sine other cool fishes. Watched the 2 pm feeding and after that I was back in the road. Fremantle next.
It's only a few more days before I have to go back home 😔

  • Bunbury Dolphines

    23 maart, Australië ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

After a stop in Busselton, what was over full with people. Hard to find a place to park the car...
I thought I could take a tour to the underwater observatory. But on a day like this s, it's totally booked out. That's how it is sometimes.
Just had a quick lunch break here before I was leaving to drive to Bunbury.
Stopped at the Dolphin Discovery Center first. Checked for the tours that are going tomorrow. Unfortunately no swim with dolphins tour tomorrow but the Eco Dolphin Cruise is still available.
Got some tips on where to go to see dolphins from the beach.
So I went to the cut and saw some dolphins cruising around there.
They never came to the beach but it was so hot I had to go in for a swim. The water was surprisingly cold but refreshing.

I was then reading for a while when from nowhere a big wave was washing up the beach and surprised me. Just got wet feeds this time but the next one was even bigger so u just managed to grab my stuff before all was wet.
That's why you should never turn your back to the ocean!

I then left the cut and went to the beach in front of the Dolphin Discovery Center. Was swimming here too before I went to the campground.

  • Sugarloaf Rock and Cape Naturaliste

    23 maart, Australië ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

After a nice breakfast I went to Sugarloaf Rock. Really cool rock that is actually a breeding habitat for some sea birds.

From here I drove to Cape Naturaliste and decided to do the lighthouse tour here. Unfortunately no one was on the tour at 10 am so the guy said, go to the museum now, I don't charge you and come back 5 minutes before 10 am to see if there are more people that want to do the tour. They are not allowed to run a tour with only one guest..
But I was lucky. The 10 am tour is going because a man and his daughter wanted to go up in the lighthouse as well! Awesome. Nice tour. Got done information about the live here in the early 1900s. There were always three lighthouse keepers here. And they were working for 4 hours and then were free for 8 hours before the next 4 hour shift started. And that's how they worked, day after day, no sick days, no vacation.. Crazy.

  • Canal Rocks

    22 maart, Australië ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Last but not least, Canal Rock. Super crowded again.
Nice anyway but the nice view I got when I climbed on the rocks nearby. That was amazing.

From here I went to Dunsborough. Had to buy some stuff. Was then deciding that it was enough for today and went to the camp for tonight. Was relaxing the rest of the afternoon. Was around 30 degrees here. I love it. Especially as it's cooling down in the evening and it's not too warm over night.Meer informatie

  • Moses Rock to Quinninup Falls

    22 maart, Australië

Next up, another walk. From Moses Rock to Quinninups Falls. Again a part of the Cape to Cape Trail. It's a 3,8 km long return walk and it took me around 1 hour. Not the best time of the year for a nice waterfall but anyway a really nice place with a little bit of running water. Must be impressive during winter.
Not an easy walk here. Had to get down and later up over a sand dune and that wasn't easy at all.
    But I made it.

  • Bob's Hollow

    22 maart, Australië

Woke up early today. Perfect because I want to start the walk early. It's going on a walk today and then it's better I am done before it gets too hot. Had breakfast and then left the camp. My plan is to walk a part of the Cape to Cape Trail to Bob's Hollow. It's a 5 km return walk and supposed to be the best part of the Cape to Cape Trail. Or better to say, all the way from Conto Beach to Redgate Beach. That's a 14 km return walk and I decided to do the shorter version.
I started the walk around 9 am.
Beautiful weather and such an amazing walk. I loved every second of it. Many runners here too. So crazy. The Trail is good but not easy. Sand, rocks, loose stones not easy to run here. A woman was actually falling. Luckily she wasn't hurt and could keep going.

I enjoyed the walk and the view.

Made it back to the car after around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Ready for more adventures!

  • Jewel Cave

    21 maart, Australië ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Went on the 11 am tour at Jewel Cave.
    Amazing cave, so beautiful.
Here in this area are many caves. So many you can visit but I decided to only visit one. That's enough.
Got a lot of information from the tour guide about how they found the cave and how they were exploring it many years ago.
So it was a really nice tour through an amazing place.

From here I went back to Hamelin Bay for a short walk. And then I drove to Margaret River to the I-side. Got some information about some really good walks so I will spent the night out on a national park campsite near Conto Bay and start a walk from there in the morning.
Nice place, amazing night sky. I saw sooooo many stars, that was incredible. But it's also scary in a way because it's super dark out there, good to see the stars, but I got scared like hell when I went to the toilet because a kangaroo was moving right beside me and I was not expecting it 🙈😅

  • Hamelin Bay

    21 maart, Australië ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

I was up early this morning. That's good because I want to leave early.
Had a good breakfast and left before 9 am. It was just a short drive to Hamelin Bay.
I had to walk around the beach a little bit first but then I saw my first sting ray.
And this wasn't the last one! Got to see quite a few rays and some are really big! And they are coming so close! That is amazing.
Was walking beside them in the water and it was hard to keep a distance because they were swimming towards me and the other people.
    Such a cool experience!

I came back here again around like lunch time to do the walk up to the lookout. Just saw one sting ray and not as close to the beach.
So it was definitely good I was there in the morning already.

Had my lunch break at the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. I spent the rest of the day exploring the area around the lighthouse and Augusta.
Found a cute little campground with a great owner that gave me a lot of tips.
Super quiet here with only 5 other campers. All super friendly.
Had a nice evening but went to bed early, I want to be up early tomorrow. We will see..

Calm morning again. I left the campground around 10 am.
First stop for today. The Beedelup Falls. Nice short walk to the falls and back up. Decided to do the walk to the Walk- Through Tree as well. But not as a return walk. I make a loop, passing the lake on the way back. Took me in total less than one hour. Nice walk through the Forrest with some amazing trees.
It was really nice to pass the lake on the way back. Nice walk with sine steeper sections but nothing bad.

    Lots of birdies here!

When I had breakfast the next morning I had a visitor 😍
So amazing that this parrot came so close!
Met a couple from Oldenburg Here, they are driving with their bikes all the way from. Pert to Albany.

Super cloudy but not raining! That's good.
Something the sun is coming out for a few moments.
Nice and easy walk on the Tree Top Walk.
The highest point was 40 m above the ground. And the trees are still soo much taller. It was pretty cool to walk up here.
Afterwards I did the Ancient Empire Walk. Nice and easy with some cool trees.

  • Dinosaur World

    19 maart, Australië ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

It was still raining quite much this morning so I decided to leave Denmark and keep on driving west.
First stop on the way, Dinosaur World. I didn't stop here for the Dinosaurs ( have not taken one picture of them) I am here because of the reptiles and especially the birds.
Got a cockatoos saying hello to je right away. He even asked for scratches all the time but a sign was warning, that he is biting. So I wasn't sure what to do. I ended up scratching him a little bit. The owner gave me a small parrot and that one was just sitting on my arm a d shoulder and didn't know what to do with him. He wasn't getting of and didn't want be to take him off 🙈
After a while the owner came back and took him back.
I had a look around. The cages are small but I got the feeling he really cares about all his birds.
Got to hold a little python as well.
And learned, that the snake i saw yesterday at the Elephant Rocks was a small dugile, poisonous one 😬

And it started to rain during the night. Obviously quite much.. Water puddles everywhere..

  • Green Pools & Elephant Rock

    18 maart, Australië ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

After a dip in the ocean and a quick lunch break I was off towards Denmark.
Went to the Information center for a map and then to the Elephant Rocks and Green Pools because it's still good weather now. Cloudy but nice anyway. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I better have a look around here today already.
I walked to all the lookouts and places. Too cold for me to go for a swim
But many people were still snorkeling in the green pools.
I even saw a small snake crossing the path in front of me. Pretty small, dark head, green/brown body. No idea what this is for a snake. Luckily it was quickly gone.

  • Bald Head Trail

    18 maart, Australië ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

After a relaxed morning I wanted to walk up the Isthmus Hill for a view over the area. I ended up walking almost half of the Bald Head Trail because it was so beautiful and I was feeling so good so I just kept going and going. But after 2,7km it was time to turn around and go back to the car park. I didn't have enough food and especially not enough water with me. But what a beautiful trail this is! Amazing!
Was back after a little bit more than two hours and was feeling so great!

I went to Frenchman's Bay for a quick dip in the ocean, is really nice and warm today but the clouds are coming in slowly.

  • Frenchman Bay + Windmill Farm

    17 maart, Australië ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

Next up, Frenchman's Bay. Protected from the wind, calm ocean, really nice place. Was thinking about a little swim but was too lazy to walk back up the hill to the car to get my stuff. So I was just relaxing here for a while and enjoying the sun without the fucking wind.
Back at my car I wondered if there was a path on the rocks and it was. So I took a walk around there which was really nice and easy.

Last but not least I stopped at the Windmill Farm on the way back to town.
Nice coastline. Just took a short stroll around and went to the campground. Tired after a long day exploring.
