For Barcelona, Marès composed a sculptural group where he shows a woman sitting on a horse holding a ship over her head. Hermes, the god of commerce, holds the reins of the horse with one hand while carrying a gear in the other hand. Thus, Marès allegorically represents navigation, commerce and industry as the main driving forces of the city. Sculptor(s): Frederic Marés (1893 – 1991) was a Spanish sculptor.
