    Saturday was meant to be positive

    Well the morning started with Roger getting news a friend has had an accident.
    Poor Ron Smith from Springfield Missouri was coming back from the memorial ride and ran wide with the bike, needless to say he came off second best.
    Thankfully he’s doing well and will be out of hospital soon.

    Lachlan had sent me a txt during the night so I was so pleased to wake up to that this morning. He’s doing well at Kapooka, he’s nearly 6 week into his 10 week recruit training.

    Caught up with friends while Roger went to the hospital this morning.

    Raffle tickets to be sold before the banquet this evening.

    Banquet was yum, roast beef & chicken with lots of vegetables and salad…. YUM.

    Raffle draw happened then the Jack Daniels barrel was auctioned - donated to us by Rick Oliver. $1,500 USD bid on that plus the $515 from the raffle…. Not a bad start for the 2026 fundraising.    Read more

    A night to remember

    Conversation dinner with all its formalities which included the “convention torch” being handed over.

    2026 will be in Melbourne and we are ready for the challenge and hard work.

    Farewell Peoria

    Last day of convention. Sleep in then a leisurely breakfast. More good-bye hugs, until next year.

    Off to the hospital to see Ron Smith… Janice & Greg come back to see us. Apart from a fare amount of bark taken off Ron is in good spirits and hoping to be released this afternoon. With more farewells we hit the road. Indianapolis here we come.Read more

    Hello Indianapolis

    Wasn’t a long drive today but getting away late, being tired and driving the interstate has made for an eye drooping afternoon.

    Stopped at Culvers for a late lunch, the chicken is amazing and so is the shakes & custard (code for ice cream).

    Pulled into Indianapolis Hilton at the right time - we’re spent.

    Time for a relax and wander over and have a spa before heading to get dinner and a couple of Lynchburg Lemonades. We’ll sleep well tonight.    Read more

    The Brickyard

    Museum visit was so worth the stop. Pictures will never do this place justice.

    Uranus

    It was too funny not to stop. Plenty of signs, fudge, t-shirts etc to look at.
    Got a new fridge magnet, caramel corn- what we in Australia call lolly gobble bliss bombs. Roger got a route 66 sign and the local fire brigade t-shirt…. 🤣
    Whilst bagging everything up the attendant drop a copy of the local paper in the bag…. I laughed. Aptly named “Uranus Examiner”
    With everything paid for we were sent on our way with - “safe travels, exit Uranus via the rear 🤣

    Also out in the carpark is the dinosaur enclosure. Took some footage for Anastasia, Colt, Hunter, Hazel, Peyton & Quentin. 🦖🦕    Read more

    Made it to Cleveland

    We made it to Cleveland, even with all our stops today.

    Some interesting vehicles along the way, nothing like the Tesla Cuber truck, these were more mainstream. Everything is BIG in the USA…. Flags, trucks - both semi’s & 4x4’s/Utes.

    Blows my mind that no one drives at the posted speed limit either. Sign says 55, you’re expected to be at least 10 miles over… Law Enforcement only chase you if you’re being stupid.

    You literally “go with the flow” of traffic.

    And many states allow No Helmet or protective gear - now that is down right mental. They really don’t dress for the slide here…. The mind boggles.    Read more

    The Duprey’s

    We made it to Winburne Pennsylvania to stay with Emmett & Joyce on the farm. They have Alpacas, chickens, geese & 5 dogs, two of which are Great Danes (that could be classed as horses) It was so much fun. Joyce has her own honey business so everything honey related can be seen everywhere you look.

    Feeding time at the zoo saw the Alpacas get sliced apple before grain & hay.

    Dinner and conversation flowed, then out by the fire to watch the sunset, more conversation then 4 deer ran across the ridge line. What a way to end the evening.

    Connie & Sheldon from Nova Scotia had a small bingle on the bike but are ok to still keep hauling home. They took 3 days to ride from Peoria back home - 3,000kms.

    Route 66 - New York Style

    We made it to New York, dropped off the hire car and got a “lyft” to the hotel. What a full day of driving for Roger… New York traffic is mental - even my nerves are shot.

    Out for a walk to find a place for dinner - 9th Ave between West 55th & 56th we found “Route 66 Bar & Grill”. How appropriate for the travels we’ve had so far.

    Pasta with salad, burger & fries, tiramisu, Jacks & Lattes… we are full as goggey eggs - 🤭

    Time to stroll back to the Hotel. We’re booked on the hop on hop off bus Thursday & Friday. More importantly we’re booked at the 9/11 memorial tomorrow.    Read more

    What a fabulous idea, get someone else to drive through New York streets….. well, be stuck in a jam more like it. The streets of Manhattan are interesting.
    Time Square, museum (ghost busters), flat iron, court, Brooklyn bridge, 1 WTC, tunnel building (men in black head quarters). NYPD’s finest & TRAFFIC.Read more

    Another day on the Big Bus

    Another day of sightseeing after breakfast at Rosetta’s Bakery.

    Today’s trips is much faster, nowhere near as much traffic as yesterday.

    First tourist attraction - Brooklyn Bridge.

    Back on the bus and we head to USS Intrepid. But not before passing the old rusty gates were the Carpathea docked with the Titanic survivors.

    USS Intrepid participated in later stages of WW2 & Vietnam war and has been out of service since 1972….    Read more

    Looked through the windows on the 80th floor, walked outside on 86th floor then the “peace de resistance” (inset French accent) 102nd floor just because…. Views were to die for.Read more
