Nice little vulcanic island in the South of iceland. Entering the harbor of the island with ferry you do not believe that you will find a town on the island. Everything from Supermarkets, a little airport, soccer fields and even an 18-hole golf field you find there. A fantastic view over the island you get from the Vulcano helgafell.Read more

Amazing point! A must visit on an iceland trip! Never seen such crazy and beautiful scenery. Glacier in the back and single glacier stones floating in the lagoon as well as lying on the beach.

Nice area for hiking and having an astonishing view over the glacier! Campsite is nice but the cooking possibility is outside and the area is full of tourists!

Hengifoss is one of the largest waterfalls in iceland and the greater area with lake and the only forrest in iceland is different to the landscape of South iceland but really beautiful.

Today we saw the first hot springs and we used the opportunity to refresh us in the hot pot in myvatn "the Green lagoon". It was unique! Nice sunset in a warm Pool in the lava ground.
In the night we even saw northern lights which made this day unbelievable!
A really nice trip is driving to dettifoss. But take the route West of the canyon. There you will have a normal road instead of a gravel road with lots of pothols like we had. It was constantly bumping 🙈Read more

The second biggest town in iceland and it is worth to spend a night here. It is a lovely town and while being in nature on the while trip it is a nice change to have something like a town athmosphere. The botanical garden as well as the town "centre" is worth to visit and have one or two cups Coffee. If you would like to Swim a bit and relax in hot pools sundlaug Swimmingpool Pool is perfect for it. For ca 5 Euro it is a fair price!
We spend the night in hamrar campsite and it is the best campsite we had so far! Really recommendable!Read more

Snaefellsnes

From the North to the West! If you are by car drive the northern route of Snaefellsnes. Absolutly stunning landscape with fjords and lovely villages. We decided to camp at hellisandur because the campsite (it was closed) has more possibilities to shelter the wind. And it is getting very windy there which we were encountering the other Day when we wanted go hiking in the nationalpark. Because of the Wind and the rain it was nearly impossible to hike and so we decided to cut the Day and drive directly to bogarnes where we spend the night on a lovely campsite (closed as well).Read more

Hraunfossar/Husafell/Thingvellir

Today we had our bad day 🙁 we wanted to hike hafnarfjall close to bogarnes but we cancelled it because of bloody wind... 11m/s --> strong wind. Then we drove further to hraunfossar and the lava caves around husafell. Hraunfossar is a nice waterfall but after seeing thousands of waterfalls before it was not that amazing anymore.. we were more excited to see the lava caves underneath the surface. But we had to experienced that nearly everything in iceland which can be really interesting to see you have to pay for. 2h guidance to a lava cave should have cost us approx 50 Euro. Ridiculous high! And the other lava caves without free entrance were not accesible without a 4x4 jeep.. So we swallowed our anger about the high price tourism of iceland and drove directly to thingvellir nationalpark. After having all day raining and seeing the crack of the European and American earth plate our highlight of today was eating dinner and watching a movie on an ipad in the warm laundry room of the campsite in the nationalpark 😅Read more

Golden Circle

Today we did the the famous Golden Circle which is a very touristic travel route through thingvellir nationalpark and you see the popular Geysir and another waterfall Gulfoss. Seeing the fountain of the little active brother of the Geysir "strokkur" was really interesting. Something we have not seen before on our trip and I would definitely recommend watching the eruption which happens every 5-10min. The next halt was Gulfoss, a really impressive waterfall but due to the touristic athmosphere around there less amazing than other waterfalls in iceland. Overall the Golden Circle was quite okay but compared to other less touristic parts of iceland it was less exciting.Read more

We finally arrived Reykjavik! Unfortunately two days earlier because of too bad weather for camping..🙁
Reykjavik is a nice little town, for a capital it is rather a calm city. From Monday until thursday we had still Bad weather and therefore we visited the nationalmuseum (a good Option for rainy weather) and checked the nightlife of reykjavik 😊 besides the ridiculous high prices for alcohol (draft pale ale --> 10€, Cocktails ca 15-18€) there are many nice bars and no real clubs. Along laugavegur most of the bars are located. In line with the high prices in iceland our hostels with 35€ in 10bed room per night war also not cheap. We spend our nights in hlemmur square and Bus hostel and both of them we can recommend. Hlemmur square is directly in laugavegur. Bus hostel is cheaper (25€ per night) but blankets will be charged in addition with 1000isk (~8€). In general we can recommend to but food in the supermarket bonus (cheapest) and eat in subway (10€ for the big deal). Otherwise you pay at least 10€ for any Burger, kebap, noodle soup in iceland. At our last day in iceland we allowed us a lunchbuffet in Restaurant reykjavik for not even 20€ and had the offer of a variaty of nice fish side and Main dishes which were really delicious as you can tell for a buffet!
Our trip in iceland will definitely stick in our minds because of the unique and fantastic rough landscape. Renting a car and go camping is the cheapest way to explore iceland and is adventourous at the same time. Otherwise it gets really expensive. A normal guest room in sparsely populated parts of iceland costs at least 70-80€ without breakfast..
