Day 6 Estella to Los Arcos

No sleep, but a surprisingly great day.
My buddies Meagan and Foxy looked after me today and kept me upbeat with their warped humour and a bit of crass language thrown in, right up my alley.
Our first stop was the famous Irache Wine Fountain on the Camino de Santiago, where pilgrims can enjoy a free wine on tap. You use your blessed scallop shell to drink from it.
Off we went and landed in a tiny village where we heard a beautiful love story. A few years ago, a man from the Netherlands walked the Camino and along the way met and fell in love with a local Spanish lady, Elena. No holiday romance there. He returned to Spain and together they now run a pilgrim bar and café where walkers stop for a second breakfast and a cold drink.
As we walked into the village we could hear familiar music playing. It was loud and we noticed everybody sort of danced in and out of the café. It was a beautiful way to start the day.
I also came across a flower, different to the red Flanders poppies that are everywhere at the moment. It was an opium poppy. Should’ve picked it, might’ve helped me sleep!
It was a slow, hot but very beautiful walk today that ended in Los Arcos. We arrived around siesta time so the streets were really quiet, but it’s 6:30pm now and you can feel everything coming back to life.
I have an awesome view of the Church of Santa Maria from my bedroom window and a squeaky fan. It’s bloody hot though, so I’m choosing to think of it as a lullaby.
