Today was a long one and alongside the road, so the serenity just wasn’t there, but still moving forward.
I walked alone, which was really nice for a change. Had a chat with Greg on the phone for a bit and listened to an audiobook. It’s the first time I’ve listened to anything since I started and the first time it even crossed my mind, which is surprising because I never walk without headphones at home.
I stopped quite a bit, changed from sandals back into boots because my feet were hurting, sat in the shade whenever I could find it and just moseyed along.
I had a nice chat with a woman from NZ who started the Camino a couple of days before us with her sister. She walked the first fortnight with her and then her husband and daughter joined her a couple of days ago. She’ll finish the Camino with them.
We had a typical mum chat. She was saying how when it was just her and her sister she had so little to do in terms of washing and looking after herself, but as soon as hubby and daughter arrived that workload tripled and the whole dynamic shifted a bit. She also said fu$k a few times and that made me automatically feel at home!!
Lovely brief chat. Hopefully we’ll cross paths again.
I got a beautiful wax stamp on my passport, i passed a guy doing them but he had a huge lineup and then not long after I went into an Albergue to go to the toilet and the young hospitalera there was doing them. They are considered a bit ‘commercial’ by some but the creative in me couldn’t resist. I wish I had lined up with the guy earlier because his stamp was nicer!
I finally got some more undies so I’m no longer manically washing and wearing. The pressure is off.
Pharmaceuticals are expensive, I got a small tube of Fisiocream and a pack of Iboprufen and it was $44 - the ibuprofen is pretty cool though it’s in a gel form in little single pack sachets - small things/small minds hey!!
We wandered through the streets of this little village until we arrived at the beautiful Monasterio de San Zoilo in Carrión de los Condes. Nearly 1,000 years old, it’s one of those places that makes you slow down and look around. The stone cloisters are stunning and everywhere you turn there’s another beautiful archway, courtyard or carved detail. A very special place to spend the night, set amongst beautiful green shady gardens that were the perfect way to end a big day.
We were starving so we headed to the restaurant for a bite to eat. It was pretty fancy for us walkers, but we were too tired and hungry to go elsewhere.
Very good chips 🍟. I do love a chip.
I’ve noticed a pretty big blister on the back of my heel and with another 27km day ahead of me tomorrow, I need to work out what to do with it.
I had felt so smug that I didn’t have any blisters too
I also lost one of my favourite earrings today, so I’ve hopped back into the Camino lost and found pages and am hoping it finds its way back xxxRead more

TravelerThose stamps are beautiful. I didn’t see anything like them. Glad you got some more undies. Being so conscious of my pack weight, I only had 2 pairs. It was definitely wash night every night! Hopefully your earring will find its way back to you. 💚
TravelerBeautiful stamps. Compeed helps with blisters. Blow about one of your lovely earrings. Travel well.
