Today I skipped breakfast and headed out early, knowing we had another 26km our last day across the flat Meseta
I’ve had to be pretty creative and quick with my wee stops out here. There isn’t much cover, but I know if I saw someone sneaking off for a quick roadside wee, I’d understand.
For 17km there were no cafés, no breaks, just walking. Foxy and I were joined by Josh, a young American teacher trying to find the meaning of life on the Camino. An intense but kind young man with deep faith. It’s always interesting listening to people’s stories and asking questions.
    We all have a story.
The weather has been so bloody good. Looking back through my photos, almost every one has a blue sky, the Camino would be a different story if it was wet, rainy and muddy, I’m feeling bloody lucky
My feet are sore, one calf muscle is screaming, and the blister on the back of my heel had doubled in size. At the halfway mark I took some Nurofen, rubbed fisiocream into my calf and ate what may have been the world’s shittest churros.
The girls helped perform emergency blister surgery because I don’t think I would’ve got my boot back on tomorrow otherwise. My masseuse, Foxy, also moonlights as a pedicurist, so she tidied up my toes while she was at it.
We’re at a cool albergue tonight. Good basic accommodation with beautiful shady grounds. We all rolled in just after lunch and spent the afternoon stretched out on the grass, chatting, stretching and enjoying not having to walk anywhere. I had my washing done properly in a machine for the first time in almost a month, I’ve loved my handwashing ritual though.
Since then we’ve sat under a tree talking and watching the afternoon drift by.
    A good day
My days with this group are coming to an end, but I’m OK with that. I feel proud of what I’ve done and excited for these final days as I walk towards Santiago.
I’m still pinching myself that I actually got this dream off the ground. So far it’s been everything I’d hoped it would be.
    I haven’t found myself yet 🤓 … but I’ve still got a few days to go. 😘
PS Life has been so simple for a month and it’s been just what I needed. I totally overpacked but if I did it again I would overpack again because different weather would’ve required different clothes on any given day.
Each night I get my backpack ready, fill my water bladder and pop a few snacks in
Lay out my clothes for the next day
Pop my vitamins on the bathroom sink ready for the morning
Have everything packed in my suitcase leaving just my essential toiletries out
I’ve just hopped into bed and I do my little post for the day, I haven’t been able to concentrate on reading for some reason so I’ll listen to a podcast until I fall to sleep,
When I wake I get dressed, brush teeth and slip, slop, slap, zip my suitcase up and head off for breakfast and this is just on repeat.
Real life might shock me when I return xxx
