• Whitchurch Waddle

    August 10, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Decided to stay local and explore the area. J found a butcher nearby, so we walked through various neighbourhoods and lanes to get there. Being a much warmer day, and fairly humid from recent rains, we worked up a bit of a sweat. The heavier moist air also trapped the farm animal scents 🐮💩to the point of being beyond pungent the closer we got... 😵

The butcher shop had quite a selection of local meats and cuts, making it challenging for decisiveness. In the end, we chose a variety of sausages, a couple of aged steaks, and a seasoned pack of lamb shanks to enjoy in the coming days. They even had ice cream, perfect for a refreshing snack!

On our return trip we took the local footpath along the river back to Whitchurch. The path was a mix of grazed and cultivated fields and wild tree cover sections. At the start we passed by the 400 year old historic Bere Mill.

We then passed through a park near the elementary school, and a couple of other mills. The old town mill was converted into a residents (https://whitchurchonthames.com/mill.html), and then the functional Silk Mill and museum (https://whitchurchsilkmill.org.uk/)

A quick stop at the grocery store, and we were back at the house to prepare a bbq sausage dinner feast. 🌭
