Uber picturesque - Soutomaior
May 14 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F
When I awoke today, I saw a text from my family that my mom had gone to the hospital. I would have many hours to pray for her and several others struggling…including Becky.
Our group headed out from Vigo at 8:30am to our next stop - Soutomaior. It was a 23K journey that began with quite a long trek through the city streets of Vigo. Becky was still not feeling well, but she continued to push through the day. The guide for our group also began the day feeling ill.
Our group of 17 split into 3 groups once we got to the Camino trail entering the forest - the fast group (3 people), medium group (4 people), and the lolligaggers (10 people). Guess what group I was in? (My head would have selected the fast group, my heart the medium group, but my feet won out…I was in the lolligagger group!) Turned out to be a GREAT choice.
Our group loves to take photos, appreciates nature, is great at spotting cats and other wild life, and simply loves being caring of one another.
We saw some of the most picturesque scenery throughout our 7+ hour day of walking. We walked through forests, city streets, neighborhoods and saw incredible waterfalls, bridges, islands, greenery, gorgeous flowers. There were stunning views throughout most of our day. Calla lillie’s grow wild everywhere…this brought to mind both my mom and grandma who had calla lily bouquets at their weddings.
With 2 hours left to hike 2 people in our group chose to take a taxi. As the rest of us continued on, we spotted our guide Monica waiting for a taxi too!
The next leg of the trip was a big incline. We had 2 miles left to go, when Becky started feeling nauseous - we stopped at a cafe and decided to call an Uber. We had successfully completed 12.5 miles….with 2000 elevation. It was a 5 min drive to our hotel and 10 euros. Best decision ever! Moments later it started to rain.
We went to a fish restaurant and celebrated one of our staff member’s birthdays.
God willing, I’m looking forward to a 14 KM day tomorrow. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼Read more
