On way from Airport to Hotel . We recommend a shared shuttle where after hours it is free for women. We also suggest staying at the downtown area since the airport is far away and by staying at downtown you will be able to walk and explore more.Read more

Exploring Levin Iglut

The travel time from Kittila airport was 30 min .We stayed at one of 24 rooms of the Levin Iglut .The igloos were warm and had a kitchen .We recommend booking in advance . There is also a reception area which had refreshments and breakfast in the morning.Read more

Santa Claus Village-Rovaniemi

We went to drop our bags at Levi Panaroma and took a one day trip to Rovaniemi. traveling from Levi(130km above arctic) to Rovaniemi- at the arctic circle was made more fun by our very knowledgeable and local Finnish tour guide. A fun fact- the Santa greeted us in Hindi :)Read more

Snow-mobile and Northern Lights

We had warm breakfast at Levi Panaroma Hotel and headed over for our 2.5 hour snow-mobile experience . It was an amazing view- more difficult than a jet-ski with the snow offering an unexpected resistance . They offered warm drink , cookie and teepee (Finnish tent)experience as a part of the tour.
At night we made the decision to explore snow-shoeing atop hill at Levi. This turned out to be an amazing decision since we got to see the Northern Lights . It was amazing to find out that northern lights move and they have a head and tail. It was interesting to hear about the Finnish belief that conceiving a child during northern lights sighting yields a baby boy! Our guide also told us tales about Finnish forest and had a stopover for warm drinks making the snow-showing experience very memorable. Word of caution though- Snow shoeing can be very exhausting especially in biting cold that is required for northern lights sighting.(*Remember to carry your DSLR camera here)Read more

After having a late breakfast .We went from Levi to Lanio where we stayed at one of the cottages in the snow village . This came equipped with a traditional Finnish sauna to be used after hanging out in the snow.Read more

We stayed at the snow village. We explored the reindeer farm nearby and learned more about how they breed reindeers. The snow village offers free shuttle to reindeer farm so remember to ask them!
They start your experience with a tour of the snow village where they show you the various suites . Each suite has its own design and artwork and its stunning to see the entire structure made with snow and some basic metal framework . At night we made reservations at the ice hotel . This is highly recommended . You can have a drink at the ice bar and they made special 4 course vegetarian meal for me(my husband preferred having local fish and cuisine) . After a highly satisfying meal they prep you at around 9pm for your stay in your suits . The temperature is around 0 degrees Celsius to -7 degrees Celsius - so listen carefully to their instructions . We were asked to keep our thermals and change in the heated lobby area (which had hot drinks, showers and toilets- an old couple decided to stay out here :p) and then we were given warm sleeping bags to sleep in . After a good night sleep they wake you up with a warm bedside drink at the desired time . We also got certificate for a successful stay in snow village- a must try experience at least once in your life!Read more

Heading home

After an amazing adventure , it was time to pack our bags and head home . We travelled back from Kittilla airport to Helsinki and then heading home . The nice part was since our flight was super early, the snow village gave us breakfast coupons to use at the airport-this we very much appreciated !They were also nice enough to call a taxi for transport from snow village to the airport(30 min approx)Read more
