    During an unexpected private tour of the archaeological museum (in a former convent) in the lovely village of Guimarães, the archivist recommended we visit the ruins at Citãnia de Briteros. Since the weather was so beautiful, we stopped and picked up a picnic lunch on the way.

    Although primarily known as the remains of an Iron Age proto-urban hill fort (or oppidum), the excavations at the site have revealed evidence of sequential settlement, extending from the Bronze to Middle Ages.

    After a great visit to this special spot we journeyed on to Ourense, Spain.
