Pisa!
August 19, 2025 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C
Today was a little Italian adventure we won’t forget anytime soon. We started our morning in Florence, leaving around 9:30am to catch our train. In just about an hour, we rolled into Pisa!
Once off the train, we hopped on a local bus that whisked us straight to the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. No long walks we were literally dropped right at the gates of Piazza dei Miracoli, home to the famous tilt we've all seen in pictures plus the beautiful cathedral and baptistery.
Before heading in, we took a slow stroll through the market outside the entrance. Think colorful stalls, little souvenirs, magnets and plenty of leaning tower shot glasses. We may or may not have been persuaded to buy a couple of little souvenirs.
Then we entered the square, and there it was… the Leaning Tower!!! Standing proud and most definitely slanted! At nearly 850 years old it’s amazing to think it’s still standing today apparently it started slanting as soon as it was constructed due to the soft foundation underneath. CRAZY! We took all the classic photos (yes, I gave Pisa a kiss and held it up but Jayde….. hmmm that tower would be on the ground if it was Jayde’s responsibility to hold it up!) We then chilled out on the grass for a while, just admiring the view.
After some downtime, we wandered into the town itself. In my opinion there isn’t too much to do in Pisa other than the tower so we did a bit of browsing, grabbed some lunch and slowly made our way back to the train station for the ride home.
Once back in Florence, we reconnected with some friends from our hostel and told stories about our day. The night ended with a spontaneous walk through the city, taking in Florence by night. The city is lovely at this time. There are buskers that fill the streets with beautiful music and the buildings are lit up incredibly.
Now we’re back at the hostel, bags packed and ready for an early start tomorrow. Next stop Rome and reconnecting with Christie!! Whipeee!Read more
