• Our final day in Rome!

    August 23, 2025 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

We made the most of our final day in Rome, starting bright and early at 6:30am. After a quick breakfast, we were out the door and on our bikes, pedaling through the quiet streets to our meeting point to pick up our tickets for the Colosseum, I was so excited, I have dreamt about seeing the Colosseum for years so I honestly could not wait.

With tickets in hand, we arrived early enough to be among the first people through the gates. With our audio guides in our ears, we wandered slowly through the Colosseum, taking in the sheer scale of the place while listening to stories of gladiators, emperors, and ancient Roman life. It was surreal to stand in such a historic space, imagining the crowds of people that would come to watch such horrific events. We spent a couple of hours exploring every corner and stopping for a few pictures before finishing our visit.

Next up a coffee and snack at a nearby cafe. After all that walking, a little refuel and sit down was just what we needed.

Our ticket also gave us access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, so we made our way there next. Walking through the ruins of the old city was nothing short of incredible and it was crazy to think how people lived here all those years ago.

Eventually, we made our way back toward our accommodation, stopping along the way to pick up a few souvenirs, small reminders of this unforgettable place.

Back home, we took some time to rest before getting ready for our final evening in the city.
We kicked things off with our first aperitivo hour of our trip which included some drinks and little bites to eat. We then headed to a cozy Italian restaurant for our last dinner in Rome.

After dinner, we took one last slow wander through the streets just enjoying the atmosphere and the different buskers playing their wonderful music.

Tomorrow, Christie heads back home, and Jayde and I are off to Pompeii. We are so sad to be leaving Rome. It truely has been the most magical city and has taken a huge piece of my heart but for now we have to say “ciao” and I hope to see you again one day soon!
