• Exploring Pompeii

    25. august 2025, Italien ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Today was one for the books and something that I have dreamt about for years. We started our morning with a simple breakfast of yoghurt, muesli and fresh fruit trying to fuel up as much as we could for our big day ahead! At 9.30am we stepped through the gates of the Pompeii Archaeological Park. It honestly felt surreal being here as this has been on the top of my to-do list for ever!

We wandered through ancient villas, temples, and baths, trying to imagine what daily life might have looked like. The preservation is incredible, faded paintings still cling to the walls, and the outlines of homes and public spaces give just enough clues to stir the imagination. One of the most striking moments was seeing the casts of the bodies of people who had sadly succumbed to the ash from the eruption of Mt Vesuvius. Children, pets and adults lay in fetal position’s with their hands covering their faces from what’s about to kill them. Some casts you could even see the sheer terror emotion on their faces. It was quite emotional.

By 12:30, the heat had begun to creep in and our energy had definitely dipped. Time for food! We found a spot nearby for a well earned pizza and a cold drink it was cheap and surprisingly one of the best pizzas we have had!

After lunch, we took a slow wander down through the town, hunting for the perfect postcard to remember our visit. With the afternoon sun hitting full blast, we decided to escape the heat and retreated back to our Airbnb. The air conditioning was very much appreciated, and we spent a relaxed evening cooking dinner and diving into trip planning. Let’s just say some exciting things are in the works, and we can’t wait to share them with you!

Tomorrow, we’re off to Salerno by the Amalfi Coast! Some more beach days lie ahead, just what the doctor ordered! Woohoo
