• Boat day in the Amalfi!

    28. august 2025, Italien ⋅ 🌩️ 30 °C

Whoopsies….. another delayed blog from me for yesterday. But lucky for you that means you get two tonight! Unlucky for me, the reason there was no blog yesterday was because we may have had a few too many drinks or should I say shots of lemon cello so Kayla was feeling a little too sorry for herself to post one straight away but here ya go for yesterdays blog and believe me it’s a goodie!!

Our Amalfi Coast adventure began bright and early in Salerno, where we hopped on a ferry bound for Amalfi. The ride was only about 30 minutes, but with the blazing sun overhead and the sea a little rough, I was definitely relieved when we finally pulled into the beautiful town of Amalfi.

Once we arrived, we strolled through the narrow little streets, ducking in and out of little shops filled with ceramics, limoncello, and handmade goods. The highlight, though, was the chocolate shop, where we were bombarded with all sorts of different samples. From chocolates to pestos, we were trying everything and it was delicious! After a quick wander, we sat down at a little restaurant to enjoy some lunch before our big boat tour!

Our boat tour wasn’t scheduled until 2:30, so we found a shady spot along the waterfront and just enjoyed the view. Watching the constant flow of boats coming and going and people honestly just enjoying their best life. Amalfi is just something different!

When it was finally time to board, we set off along the Amalfi Coast, with our guide sharing history and stories about the towns, cliffs, and hidden spots tucked into the shoreline. We came across this beautiful citrus orchard with a tiny tower like villa hid between the vines. Our guide said it’s called the Honeymoon Suite and it costs $4,000 NZD per night to stay!!! A girl can dream right?!?! The scenery was breathtaking sheer cliffs dotted with colorful houses, turquoise water clearer then I have ever seen, and just coastline that looks straight from a movie. With cold beers in hand it really felt like a “pinch me” moment.

Our first big stop was for snorkeling, and it did not disappoint. We swam through crystal clear water that was bath temperature and even got to swim into a cave! Afterward, we were treated to a bottle of champagne and fresh fruit on board, name a better combo!

We cruised all the way to Positano whilst deleting two whole bottles of Lemoncello (drinks were free so better get our moneys worth right? Sorry Mum….), where we jumped in for another snorkel before turning back toward Amalfi. Along the way, something dramatic unfolded, a wildfire on the cliffs. Helicopters swooped down to the sea right in front of us, filling their buckets with water before flying back to battle the flames. It was surreal to watch so close up.

4.5 hours later we docked back in Amalfi, the sun was setting and it was time to head home. Instead of the ferry, we caught a bus back to Salerno. Let’s just say the Amalfi Coast roads are not for the faint of heart. With buses squeezing past each other on impossibly narrow roads and cliffs dropping straight down beside us, it was equal parts terrifying and thrilling.

As the day came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel like we had experienced the very best of the Amalfi Coast. From snorkeling in caves to sipping champagne at sea, to clinging onto my bus seat for dear life, it was one of those days that you dream of but may not ever get to experience, but today we experienced it and it was better then I ever could have imagined!
