• Our final day in Venice

    August 31, 2025 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Our last day in Venice started a little earlier than usual. We grabbed some breakfast to fuel up, then headed straight out into the maze of alleyways and canals that make this city feel so special. One of the things we have loved most about Venice is that even without a plan, it feels like an adventure. Every turn brings you to a new little bridge, another canal, or a tiny piazza. I could walk these streets for days and not get bored.

We wandered like this for most of the morning, and before long, the narrow streets suddenly opened up into the wide, impressive St. Mark’s Square. The basilica was breathtaking and the architecture from the outside wasn’t like anything we had really seen from the other basilicas.

On our way, we couldn’t resist popping into a few of the jewellery stores. If I could, I would love to take a piece home as a souvenir for our amazing trip. A couple of pieces really caught my eye (I’m still thinking about them, to be honest), but sadly they were just a little outside my budget. Whoever said gold was cheap in Venice, I can assure you it’s not!! For now, they’ll stay sparkling in Venice.

We continued walking, talking, and soaking it all in before hunting down something I’d been looking forward to, a TikTok-famous sandwich shop. The sandwiches there were enormous, easily big enough for two so we shared one. And wow… they were worth the hype. So delicious and fresh!!

After lunch, we decided to give our legs a break and found a quiet spot to sit down, relax, and just people watch for a while. Which if you haven’t clicked on to from my other blogs, people watching is my favourite thing to do!

By late afternoon, it was edging toward dinnertime, and we found ourselves being lured into a restaurant by someone standing out front. Normally, we never fall for that trick, but this time we gave in. And thank goodness we did because the food was incredible and to top it all off we got Lemoncello shots on the house.

But the real highlight of the day and honestly a top highlight of our trip so far came after dinner…. our Gondola Ride!!! This special gift from Mum and Dad was pure magic! Gliding through the canals just as the sun was starting to set and with our gondolier sharing with us history of Venice and his life, it was one of those moments that we will remember forever. He even started whistling a song which was so lovely as it made me think of my Pop who is the best whistler of all time, just pipping Mum at the post… It was a moment where I felt connected to home and nothing beats that feeling. The city looked even more magical from the water, peaceful, beautiful, and even more stunning. It was the perfect way to close out our final night in Venice. Thank you Mum and Dad xx

Now, we’ve got bags to pack and alarms set for an early start tomorrow. But early starts means something exciting, a brand-new adventure! Croatia, here we come! 🇭🇷✈️ Split is calling, and we can’t wait.
