Stunning Santorini

When we woke up this morning, I thought it was going to be a short and simple travel day. Spoiler alert it was anything but!
We started off nice and slow at our hotel, made our own breakfast, enjoyed a little lie-in, and eventually got around to packing our bags. It all felt very calm and leisurely. With everything ready, we took a short 10-minute walk down to the ferry terminal and waited for our boat.
The ferry ride itself was surprisingly smooth and easy. Three hours passed by before we knew it, and then suddenly, there she was, Santorini!!!! And that’s when the chaos began.
As soon as we stepped off the ferry (which by the way is a bit like the hunger games. Everyone gathered right at the doors of the boat waiting for them to open so they can all run off) we were met with a sea of people, honking cars, and shop owners shouting at us to buy tickets for taxis, shuttles, and buses. It was overwhelming, to say the least. When someone quoted us €40 just to get to Oia, we realized quickly that we were about to get scammed. So we stepped back, took a deep breath away from the madness, and regrouped.
That’s when we discovered the public bus system, our saving grace! As luck would have it, a bus was leaving in just five minutes, and for only €9 it would take us all the way to Oia. Perfect! We hopped on, found our seats, and braced ourselves.
The ride up the steep, winding hill was absolutely terrifying, definitely not for the faint hearted. They were some of the steepest, windiest roads I have ever seen but after an hour we finally rolled into Oia, our home for the next three days. We checked into our lovely apartment, dropped our bags, and then headed out again for the evening.
We had something special planned for our first night in Santorini, an outdoor cinema experience. And not just any movie…. Mamma Mia! But before that, we grabbed some dinner and took a little stroll through the charming shops of Fera.
As the sun began to set, we joined the crowds to watch the sky light up in breathtaking colors. The Santorini sunset is truly something else, in my opinion even better then the sunsets we were seeing in Paros, how is that even possible!!! No picture could ever do it justice! We stood there for a while just taking it all in before we made our way to the openair cinema.
Settling in with a couple of drinks, the movie began. Sitting outside under the night sky, overlooking the most breathtaking view, watching Mamma Mia on the big screen, ugh it was the perfect way to kick off our Santorini adventure.
What started as a “short travel day” turned into an unforgettable introduction to the magic of this island. And if day one was this good, we can’t wait to see what the next few days will bring.Læs mere

Rejsendelol,, yes it’s organised chaos alright…use local buses as much as you can. Pop would head to bus, chat with driver and presto we were travelling away from tourist spots, seeing stuff that the other passengers on our cruise didn’t get to experience, we would be way up in the hills, olive trees, grape growers and cheap travelling around island with the locals.
