• Frozen Quail Lake

    With 50F forecasted for today, not to mention blue skies and sunshine, we just had to get out for another walk. This time, we drove 19 miles to Quail Lake Park, located on the west side of I-25.

    Quail Lake was formed in 1973 by damming a tributary of Fountain Creek. It has a beautiful backdrop of mountains ... the three peaks of Cheyenne Mountain being the most prominent. The tip of Pikes Peak is visible as well ... from certain parts of the dirt trail that rims the lake.

    As popular as this park is, I was surprised at how few people we encountered today ... a couple of people hiking the 1-mile loop that has a gentle, 300-foot elevation gain ... anglers fishing from one of the piers. And, oh yes, there was a young woman in a bikini taking a dip in a hole she found in the mostly frozen lake while her friend took a video to document the occasion!!!
