    UA623 … IAH to DEN

    31. joulukuuta 2021, Yhdysvallat ⋅ ☁️ 32 °F

Slated for a 12:20p boarding, we left the UA Club Lounge just before noon. Thanks to a “we are pleased to welcome you aboard UA623” text message we had received from the airline just moments before, we were confident that the flight was a go. What we weren’t confident about was that it would depart at 1:10p … it’s new EDT.

Sure enough, no sooner were we at Gate E4 that an announcement was made, delaying boarding 10 minutes and advising us that one last crew member whom UA had managed to scrounge up for our flight was en route and scheduled to land @ IAH shortly after 1:00p. Our new ETD was 1:30p … not bad. In fact, boarding did begin at 12:30p … and our flight was wheels up at 1:39p … with a new ETD showing us landing @ DEN at 2:54p.

It’s been a bumpy flight almost from the get go. But the flight crew managed to find a sweet spot at a lower altitude, so things seem to be smoothing out.

Our seats on the B767 that is taking us to DEN turned out to be an unexpected boon. They are two of the four seats set aside for crew rest when the aircraft is used for long haul international flights. Wider seats … plenty of legroom … and even a leg rest that is doing wonders for me since my feet aren’t otherwise touching the floor.

I guess, this is it for the time being. I’ll wrap our day … and the trip, for that matter, after we get home.
