At the UA Lounge @ IAH

Welcome to the evolving tale of our travels back home during COVID-19. We’ve changed our minds about flying all the way to COS. But first, let’s get caught up as Mui and I relax in the United Club Lounge in Terminal E @ IAH … at not quite 10:00a.

We had a good night’s rest, staying up until 10:30p to minimize our jet lag. Which is why, I guess, that we were up at our usual 6:00a.

Checking the phone, I saw that I had a message from United advising that our seats on the IAH-DEN flight had been changed from the exit seats I had purchased yesterday — 40A/B. The message noted that this was due to a change in equipment … from a B757 to a B767. I’ll deal with whatever refunds we are due when I get home.

This change message was followed by another … advising us of a delay for the IAH-DEN flight. UA623 was now scheduled to take off at 1:10p instead of 12:40p. The reason? Not the storm brewing in Colorado. Rather, UA needed to find a new flight crew due to sick call-ins because of Omicron, which is still blowing up here.

With this delay news, we decided to cancel the DEN-COS leg and just Uber it home from Denver. The driving force behind this decision is the forecast for a snow storm that is expected to arrive in the area around 5:00p. We’d rather be home before then.

After hurrying through our ablutions, we headed down to the hotel lobby for breakfast. It was disappointing to see that they’ve gone to a pricey buffet breakfast due to lack of serving staff. Yes … Omicron strikes again!

After breakfast, collecting our bags from our room, we walked to Terminal E and took the walkway to Terminal D to make arrangements to terminate our trip in DEN. There was a surprising lack of people in line. In fact, this section of the terminal was all but deserted. Not that I’m complaining, but unusual on New Year’s Eve. Anyway, one of the agents made the necessary changes and soon we were heading to the UA Club Lounge where we used the passes we get with our United co-branded credit card.

Thus that brings me back to where I started … sitting in the lounge where we have a couple more hours to while away. 🤞🏻UA finds a flight crew to get us out of Texas and into Colorado.
