“Where the Scent is Memory and the Taste is Story.”

Towards the end of October, my nephew and his wife — Hakan & Serenay — will be paying us a short visit. I’m sure food will play an important role in that visit. To that end, today we checked out a bruschetta and wine place on Via Goito, a narrow street off Via Indipendenza.

We ordered two different types of bruschetta — the Essenza and the Radici, the latter featuring a topping of mortadella, stracciatella cheese from Puglia, grilled artichokes, and fresh basil. As well, we got ourselves a single tagliere platter featuring an assortment of cured meat and cheeses … the Pecorino aged in red wine was different and flavorful. All good … as was the Sangiovese red wine we selected to accompany our meal. Dessert was a mascarpone pudding, if you will, with strawberries and shaved dark chocolate. Yummy, yummy.

The place was quiet at lunch, but Simeon said that the ambiance is “quite intense in the evening.” I guess we’ll find out for ourselves. We made a reservation for later this month … a four-top on the street … with the suggestion that he would seat us “inside if the temperature dips below 20C.”
