  • Sensō-ji & Skytree

    April 6, 2025 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Today we went to the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo, built in 645. The architecture was gorgeous, and it was amazing to see such a peice of history. We prayed at the shrine for good fortune.

Afterwards, we went to the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest building in the biggest city in the world. The view was phenomenal, and really made you feel the vastness of Tokyo and the surrounding area. There were only buildings for as far as the eye could see. In one of my pictures, you can see Sensō-Ji temple, which is barely a spec from the Skytree. They were doing a MHA collaboration as well!

  • First day in Osaka

    April 11, 2025 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

I really love it here in Osaka.

Our first day here we walked through the market which is actually a minute away from where we are staying.

We walked down a side street and saw a group of 5 cats in a parking lot and made an attempt at friendship but they were happy where they were at.

We also walked to the waterfront later in the evening (which was packed) and enjoyed some wagyu burgers at a store called the butcher.

Overall this was an amazing first night.

  • Ferris wheel and second day!

    April 12, 2025 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Our second day in Osaka and we have just been walking around enjoying the market.

The weather has been nice and we even decided to brave the huge ferris wheel that towered above the waterfront. This ferris wheel was constantly creaking and while it was scary the view at the top was worth it, even if Lauren's face doesn't say it.

We went out tonight and got some drinks at a "barcade" and then went to a rock bar that was run buy a US transplant who moved here 20 years ago.

It was really great to hear about his experiences in Japan and we had a lot of fun meeting some other travelrs as well!

  • Himeji Castle & Kobe

    April 16, 2025 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Today we went to Himeji Castle on a day trip! It's about an hour and a half from Osaka and it was amazing. It's the biggest and one of the most well kept castles in Japan, built in the 1300s. You can go all the way to the top and there are fantastic views of Himeji. After the castle, we were able to walk through the castle gardens. There were beautiful ponds and flowers, including some irises that reminded me of my mom. There were also a special breed of cherry blossoms, that bloom later and are grown only in the Himeji gardens.

On our way home, we went to Suma Beach in Kobe. It's a beautiful, sandy beach in the southern region of Kobe. We had some Kobe Beef Yakiniku and headed home on the train. It was a long, beautiful day! We saw so much and got to explore a new city.
