  • Rotorua, New Zealand

    December 3, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Rotorua was an experience.  Lets just say we saw the good of it.  A drive was suggested to Lake Rotoiti was pretty.  Susie and I stopped many places.
The 3rd Picture is of Lake Rotoiti.  Accidentally drove onto a Maori community lot.  (Not the best thing for non natives to do) Took this picture, got asked to leave by young Marori's and drove on to Taupo.  I liked that town.Read more

  • Cape Reinga, New Zealand

    December 9, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

A magical journey through vast and different landscapes to the top of New Zealand's North Island.
Today I did a full day tour which began in Paihia to the Cape. I had Panoramic views of the light house and the point where the Tasman Sea crashes into the Pacific Ocean.
We stopped for a Fish and Chips lunch in a bag at Houhora. There I visited with a local Mauri and watched kids on paddle boards.
Along the way in Keri Keri I saw new groves of Avocados. The next big export...

After 45 min fast walk to the top of the Cape Reigna cliffs..no hand rails... We boarded our bus and headed for the sand dunes. Our bus driver Ron warned us that if not positioned properly on our wave boards, broken fingers and toes would happen. I found it most beneficial to just watch and take a video.

Then on to a ride down 90 mile beach. This 4 Ton bus with 4 wheel drive had a very trained driver... Needless to expand upon the event.. The whole day 500 km was an E Ticket ride. We almost got stuck in the deep sand!!

    Land of the Dairy Cows
Fun couple of days on the farm. Helped out a bit with house rearranging. Rested and yelled at the sheep that were eating Susie's fruit tree branches. Swam in Pool and familiarize myself with the NZ TV news. My friends and their friends here talk very softly/quietly. So I was convinced to purchase hearing aids upon my return to the States. Crap!! Walked with very smart well behaved dogs to their milking shed. The dairy cows now are reared so special that they can't have strangers around before/when milking... They will not give milk!!!
Stayed on a highly successful Dairy farm. Wonderful people. Lots of fun times.

  • Thames town on the Coromandel

    December 14, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Thames was named after the town in England. It saw a Gold rush when 10,000 people sought their fortune in the late 1800's. Then went bust. According to my tour guides nothing here has changed in 50 years. It is now a weekend fishing town where you can catch Red Snapper, Groper and Marlin. We stopped here for a coffee and cheese cake with ginger brisket crust. My tour guides gave it a thumbs up.Read more
