Panathenaic Panic!

Dinner last night was interesting....! We wandered the Plaka for an agreeable restaurant. The food - gyros, kebab, whitebait and calamari - was very nice. Except I found a deep fried cicada in amongst my calamari!! Our bemused waiter called over his boss, who was equally bemused before stating that it was the neck bones of the calamari. It really wasn't! At the end of the meal we raised it again, but the manager was insistent and animated so we just paid up and left...but we are certain it was a bug! But we don't want to let that spoil a great holiday or what was otherwise a good meal.

With our airport transfer at 10.30am and being packed, Ben and I meandered out for the 20-minute walk to the Panathenaic Stadium, home of the modern Olympic Games, to round off the holiday. On the way back, I suddenly had a bunch of missed calls and messages as apparently our taxi had arrived at 9.30! We had confirmation of the change of time but clearly that hadn't quite followed through. Thankfully, we were only two minutes from the hotel anyway and the taxi driver was very apologetic, so we quickly showered, grabbed our stuff, and hopped in the taxi to the airport.Læs mere
