    Carnasserie Castle - Kilmartin Glen

    Ruined tower house castle built around 1565 by the Rector of Kilmartin, John Carswell, who published the first Scottish Gaelic book. It was eventually owned by the Campbell clan chief, who unfortunately picked the wrong side in the Argyll Rising against James VII in 1685. The Royalist’s burnt the castle and it was never rebuilt. We climbed the winding narrow stone staircases 5 storeys to the top, great views down the Glen.Read more
