Lovely walk through marsh land with views of Mount St Helens volcano. Loads of dragonflies, water lilies and the biggest clover we’ve ever seen.

Lunch stop at Coldwater Lake, getting closer to the volcano where no forest replanting has been done. On the high tops you can still see the devastation of the eruption which killed 57 and changed the landscape forever.

Hiked about a mile round a narrow trail which was well and truly in the blast zone. Turned back when the trail got steep and slippy with loose gravel. The wildflowers were stunning growing in among the grey dead trees. Nature is amazing.もっと詳しく

Crossed the border into Canada at Sumas July 18th and as usual got the third degree. They always think we’re going to sell the Coach here. They didn’t look through the coach otherwise they would have realised we had way too much stuff to get rid of if we were selling.
Anyway we spent the weekend watching the British Open and shopping. We needed to stock up on beer, wine and whisky as we could not bring much into Canada from the US.
Today, Tuesday we visited the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve and although too late to see the 100 pairs nesting in the cottonwoods we saw a few feeding in the lagoons. The trails were really interesting with marshes and streams where salmon will spawn in a couple of months time. Frogs were calling and we saw a few on the trail. Also saw evidence of beavers, but no sightings. Great views of Cheam Mountains with snow patches from the Tower Trail. Interesting visitor centre, plant in pictures are pretty but are all invasive species, although we did enjoy the blackberries which we on all the trails. Weather was hot in the 90s F.もっと詳しく

Drove out to the trailhead near Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park and headed up through the forest following a creek. It was a real up and a bit of a scramble at times over rocks which have fallen from the high cliffs on both sides. At the top the deep blue lake appeared surrounded by mountains and forests and it was so appealing we splashed ourselves to cool off as once again the temperature was in the 90s F.もっと詳しく

旅行者Oh yes we remember you crossing the bridge too and then needing sphagnum moss after your not so long jump across the river to get back.

Couple sat next to us in busy Old Yale Brewing and we got talking. The lady’s grandfather was Scottish and was born in Kirtomy near Bettyhill, Thurso. They visit regularly and have been to The Cote Du Nord restaurant where we went a few years ago. Brilliant tasting menu prepared by the local doctor in his house.もっと詳しく

Back in Scotland

As you can see we’re back in Bonny Scotland, arrived last Monday. We’ve had a difficult couple of months. First I had an allergic reaction to tamoxifen my cancer drug and then after I recovered we went over into Canada to continue travelling. Then Stew developed a problem with his waterworks which resulted in a visit to ER and a catheter being fitted. Short story is he’s now on his third catheter after 4 ER visits as he can’t pee without one and needs to see an urologist.

So on his birthday (August 7th), we made a big decision !! We decided to to stop full timing and sell the coach and Jeep before returning as we didn’t want to store them again. Plus we’ve been a bit disillusioned with full timing as it’s been hard to book campgrounds at short notice as there seems to more people living in them and immigration is a pain in the butt.

So we returned to the US Sunday August 12th and straight to a RV dealer in Everett, WA who is going to consign both vehicles for us. We had a busy few days going through our stuff, we've shipped a few boxes back home, packed suitcases and gave away stuff we couldn’t bring back. We managed to book a direct flight from Seattle to Manchester for last Sunday and here we are back in Lochmaben. Stew’s seen the doctor and is waiting for an appointment with urology.

We’re feeling really positive about our decision and relieved to be back and not have to store and return to the US to deal with the vehicles. Our next adventure will begin once Stew’s recovered and that will be to buy a house or some land on the west coast of Scotland as a base for shorter trips.もっと詳しく

旅行者I'm sure it was a difficult decision to sell your coach. Home is always the best place to be when you have some medical issues. Hope you're both doing better soon. We'll keep in touch even though we're "across the pond!" Mary Beth

Great day out at the Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve. Mute and Hooper swans. Ducks (mallards, teal, wigeon, tufted & moor hens). Geese (barnacle, greylag & Canada). Feeding time was amazing we were so close. Beautiful sunny day for a walk round the reserve. Around 40,000 barnacle geese winter here and the noise when they take to the air was deafening.もっと詳しく
