Very cool pictures! That’s really quite an assortment of wildlife you are seeing! Alysia
Nice shots of wildlife, especially the wood bison! What great experiences! Yes, the people who live there all say the same thing about the need to be self-sufficient and/or help and get help from neighbours. The area looks very much like the southern Cariboo where I had property by Sheridan Lake for about five years. The people who live there and in the surrounding area also need to be self reliant and they generally do help each other out.
The first time I stayed at the cottage the pump for bringing in water from the lake was broken. The electrician gave me a reduction in installing the new pump, however it took close to three weeks to get the part, do the work and fir my place and pump into his schedule. It was not as isolated as where you are but it is a 30 to 35 minute drive to the nearest small city for parts or ordering parts in. There was a second pump for drinking water from a natural source underground spring that was piped into the kitchen and I used that for drinking, cooking and light cleaning. The property next door was the Sheridan Lake Resort (fishing and camping) and they let me use their toilet and if a bath in the lake wasn't enough, showers cost a Loonie. Enjoy your trip! This next section will be beautiful and full of history! They have a different way of life up that way. The rainy days make you appreciate the sunny ones even more! When you get to Whitehorse, if you drive north, you can get cinnamon buns in a small coffee shop/gas station on the way to Pelly Crossing where they serve travellers all the time. Miriam
