  • Operation

    24 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

I know this has nothing to do with my trip, but I want to share it anyway. I have been thinking about my operation in December.

In 2018 I wanna do two things, buy new shoes (leather ankle boots with a small heel) and run a half marathon somewhere in Europe :)Leia mais

  • Vaneza

    24 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Vaneza is the name of my Spanish teacher. She is from Cusco and does not really speak good English, but she teach and explains me everything in Spanish.

She is the more modern Peruvian though. She looks modern, has a lot of knowledge about politics, culture and the world. She loves to speak and 50% of our classes we actually just chat haha. She used to have an English boyfriend and visited London once. Now they broke up though.

Always when we chat it is in Spanish and when I make a mistake she corrects me. We see each other every day, so actually you really get to know each other! I like Vaneza, she is a sweet teacher. Not as efficient as Berta though haha.

Last 2 weeks we did 'Indefinido and Imperfection', quite difficult cause every Spanish verb almost is irregular... Aaaah haha!
Now we focus on Pronombres, also quite challenging.

  • Shower

    24 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

I really feel, after two days, like taking a shower. Cusco has been without water for 30 hours now. It is quite common that there is no water for 2 hours (like ever third day) but 30 is a lot.
We flush the toilet with water from this tub and also wash and brush our teeth/face etc. I have used some mineral water though because of hygiene..

Anyway, after two days of working, dancing, walking in the sun, I need a shower soon. :)

  • Tengo días mejores

    25 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

    I have better days.

I didn't slept that many hours, I woke up with a message from my boss from Denmark, who send me an annoyed message about some working shifts in December.
I was tired and at work I had some troubles following what the nurses told me and I did some things wrong (small mistakes with paperwork) and that made me frustrated. Spanish is okay, but working in Spanish is difficult!

In the evening, I studied, studied and studied. I know I am not making my project for my studies but I make it for myself. And I want to do it good. Though the computers are terrible here and it takes so long before something loads. Annoying haha.

Then I wanted to go home at 8pm to have dinner with my family. There was so much rain. I waited 45 min on a taxi! Yup, 45 min! Aarghhhh!

And most of that.. I missed Nacho a lot today. Haha, yess I admit it! Those kind of days it is just nice to get a really BIG hug from your boyfriend.

Anyway, then I came home and got a big hug from Yolanda and Carmela! That is nice :)

    Tomorrow a new day!

  • Lab day!

    26 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Today I worked in the laboratorium. I worked together with Fiorella who is really friendly and speaks (finally) clear Spanish!

We take blood samples and let patients take their own urin, vaginal and secretion samples.
Offcourse taking blood, is something I do a lot in Denmark, so I could help with that. But besides that, I also helped filling out the papers.

Fiorella is actually not a nurse but a biologist. Therefore she has way more knowledge about how to see bacterias in the microscope. She teached me a bit!

  • El tiempo

    26 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

The weather here changes all the time! One moment it is so warm and then you suddenly need a sweater.

Today I had a really interesting day at work in the laboratory, afterwards a nice lunch with two random girls and then I went to Spanish class and spend some hours working on my project and looking for my trip to the rest of Peru.Leia mais

  • Nursing

    27 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Today will be my last day working in the children's department, this weekend I will finish my assignment about nutrition. From Monday on I will start working in the lab.

It was really interesting to work with babies. Also quite nice to experience for the first time 'happy' patients. But I have to admit it... I still prefer the really sick ones haha. More challenging.

Confronting in a way that they miss out on so much material. Also, the passion among the people for their job, is missing. They just do what they do and go home. They letterly work for money, not because they love what they do.

We should be so grateful to got born in developed countries. We know we can count on the nurses and doctors back home, cause they really care and the system works. Also, the places are clean, there is always enough medicine and the resources for diagnostics is available. I think after this work, I start appreciating more the hospital back home, despite the working pressure.

Here, I do volunteer work, I basically came here to help people. Though, cause of the lack of resources, I don't always feel I help the people. How can you clean a babies bellybutton without using gloves, cleaning your hands etcetera? Well, I cannot really clean my hands cause a lot of times there is no water. There is no paper to dry my hands and the tap is so dirty that if I close the tap.. my hands are dirty again!

I love to help people and I like it to hear a patient say in the end of my shift: thank you for your help. That's where you do it for, I guess :)

  • Beers

    27 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

I love beers, wine perhaps more, but the wine here is not that good. You need to go to Chile or Argentina to get good wine. I have to say that I cannot complain about the Cusqueñas. Today I tried a new one: Maqta. It is an IPA, brewed in Cusco and it taste really, really good!Leia mais

  • Fiesta

    28 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

My first time going out in one month. Haha yes really. And omg, I felt so old! Luckily I had Amanda with me, who is still younger, but she was also in a sorority so we could speak about sorority stuff.

Everybody was around 18 and I was thinking like.. was is also like that? Haha, I realized in that moment how much I grow in the last years, got more responsible, taking better care of my stuff, not getting drunk, wanting interesting conversations instead of just speaking about nothing. Wow how time flies!

I had an amazing dinner and cocktail with Amanda and the club was full of Peruvians so it was a funny experience! It had a good view over Cusco.
The DJ was German, so it was mainly techno and house.
There was one Danish guy and a Spanish one, so I spoke 3 languages yesterday! (PROUD)
I paided the taxi cause I wanted Amanda to drive with me until I was home, so nothing would happen to me haha (I am such a pussy), she didn't mind. :)

    28 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

My first time on a quad! It went so well!!! We drove around 50km per hour through the countryside high up in the Andes mountains. It was so cool, cause you really saw how all the families lived. There were so many alpacas, sheep's, cows and even pigs.Leia mais

    28 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

This was like a botanical garden for the Incas. The temperature was 3-5 degrees lower or higher on each level. They planted a lot of different plants here. So interesting!!

I was mainly hanging out with a gay couple from Lima. (I thought that it was a dad and son haha)Leia mais

  • Pisac

    29 de outubro de 2017, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Pisac, one hour by bus from Cusco, you need to pass a lot of mountains to get there!
The capital of the sacred valley. For those who doesn't know what this was, the sacred valley was the living area for the regular Incas, the farmers. The Macchu Picchu was just for the leader and the young virgins. In the Macchu Picchu where no regular Incas living.
During the bus trip, the tour already started, the views from the bus where outstanding!
