    Isla de la Plata 🇪🇨

    ‘Poor mans Galapagos’

    We went on a day trip to Isla de la Playa, which was beautiful and full of different animals and nature! We went on a hike around the coast to take in the views and get up close to some of the different birds and then went to a few different snorkelling spots where we saw turtles, Manta-rays and loads of different types of fish!
    After a few hours we began the rough journey home where the motor fell off the boat, almost leaving us stranded on the middle of the pacific. The 2 guides managed to hold the motor on the back on the boat for the whole journey back while I threw up over the side ✌🏽    Weiterlesen

    Quito - Pre riots

    LOVE QUITO!
    We arrived off the bus in Quito at about 4am, after a ferry bumpy ride ( Betty even managed to lose her shoe… just one) with no room booked. Very successful backpacker move! Luckily the hostel we were at the following few nights had 1 bed left, so me and Betty managed to get a few hours sleep top and tailing in the bottom bunk bed 😂
    Secret Garden became like a second home the amount of time and money we spent in the rooftop bar! The first couple of days included a lot of coca tea due to the high altitude that we weren’t used too but we still enjoyed the city a lot!
    The walking tour was fun, and even included chocolate tasting. We took the cable car up to Pichincha Volcano… chose not to hike this one though! The views were still nice tough when the clouds decided to clear! We went out for some drinks with some girls from the cable car but the nightlife wasn’t very busy!
    Another popular thing to do in Quito it to visit the centre of the earth where you can stand on the actual equator line and learn/take part in different activities, like balancing an egg on top of a pin which is apparently only possible on the equator!    Weiterlesen

    Amazon 🇪🇨

    Tucan Lodge 😍

    The Amazon Rainforest is probably one of my favourite places in the world.
    We had an interesting start to the trip, being picked up by the night bus at midnight, and having a girl throwing up behind us all night before arriving in the middle of nowhere and bumping back into Zara and Rob who we met in Guatemala!
    Not long after we were picked up by our guide, Ricardo, to start our first official day in the Amazon and took a 3 hour boat ride down the river wildlife spotting until we reached Tucan Lodge. We spent a few hours on the rope swing and swimming in the river and just hanging out at the lodge before they took us back out to the river to hunt for pink dolphins and for a sunset swim. Swimming in the Amazon was incredible but getting back into the boat was a challenge 😂
    On our second day in the Amazon we woke up early to go kayaking. It was raining but we still managed to spot some stinky turkeys, red belly Macaws and many other things before we headed back to the lodge for dinner. After that they took us to the back of the lodge and we made our own chocolate and coffee from peeling and roasting cacao. When we’d finished drinking our own homemade coffee we headed back out on the boat for another sunset swim before heading into the rainforest on foot for a night walk. The sounds were unreal and we saw so many spiders and other creatures! Then we headed back to the lodge for tea where we were given some homemade shots that tasted like poison and ink to tattoo each other.
    Our 3rd day in the Amazon we woke up early and headed straight into the rainforest on foot. We ate ants along the way and hiked to a little village where we made some traditional food and met the shaman who let us try his ‘medicines’. After being beaten with stinging nettles we played a game of football in the rain then got picked back up by Walter in his boat! That evening we went crocodile hunting and on our final night walk in the rainforest.
    Our final morning in the Amazon was an early morning bird watching trip to spot our final lot of wildlife before heading back to the lodge to pack our stuff and getting back on the 3 hour boat back along the river to get the bus back to Quito.    Weiterlesen

    Quito 🇪🇨

    After our trip to the Amazon we headed back on the bus to Quito, not knowing what had happened while we were in the middle of the rainforest 😂
    The roads has been blocked into the city so we took a de-tour up a mud slide and hours later ended up back at the secret garden hostel. Here they told us about the riots that had started due to the indigenous groups being unhappy about the current inflation in the country and the government not taking any notice, so they all decided to group together and riot in Quito, where the president and parliament buildings are. The first couple of days we could still go out and explore in Quito, the roads were blocked to everywhere else so we couldn’t travel the country but we still had the opportunity to go on a walking and food tour and explore the city (& eat the most incredible sandwiches.) A few days in, the riots got a bit more serious so the police told us to go back to our hostel and stay there, so for a couple of days we got drunk on Cuba Libres in Secret Garden bar and watched Gavin and Stacey until we finally decided to book flights to Peru.
    There’s still lots of places I want to explore in Ecuador when I can get back there 💛💛    Weiterlesen

    Mindo 🇪🇨

    Mindo was a lovely little day trip where we could escape the chaos of Quito for a while. They took us on a 7 waterfall hike, starting with us all stood in a very old looking zip line cart that took us into the jungle. The hike was a nice one and we got to take a dip in a few of the waterfalls. We spent the rest of the day bird watching and in a butterfly/nature sanctuary in town. We got some time to explore the town and get some fresh coffee in a local cafe before we had to race back to Quito through fears that rioters were going to block the roads, leaving us stuck.Weiterlesen

    Lima 🇵🇪

    With the situation in Ecuador getting worse, we hopped on our flights and headed to Lima, capital of Peru! We spent a couple of days wandering around town, taking the longest walking tour in the history of walking tours and trying some local foods! We found a musical fountain show, which was beautiful and Betty finally decided to get her nose pierced, drunk.Weiterlesen

    Paracas 🇵🇪

    Paracas was a cute little coastal town with not an awful lot going on. We stayed at Kokopelli hostel which had its own little beach bar to watch the sunset! We went to Paracas National Park one day and the other day we took the freezing cold boat ride to Ballestas Island to get a glimpse of the seals and penguins, which we did see 😍Weiterlesen

    Paracas National Park 🇵🇪

    One of the main things to do in Paracas is go to Paracas National Park. We decided to hire a scooter and drive around the park ourselves. We packed a picnic and headed to all the amazing view points and stopped at the amazing and protected red sand beach before stopping for lunch at Playa el Raspon for lunch and a sunbath. We met some dogs, made some sand penises and then headed back on the scooter to see the rest of the park. The beaches here were beautiful and the water was so incredibly blue 😍Weiterlesen

    Huacachina 🇵🇪

    Huacachina is a tiny little town in the desert, surrounded by sand dunes! I met a couple of girls in my room when we arrived and we headed up the sand dunes to watch sunset! After that we headed out for some food and grabbed a couple of drinks in the hostel bar!
    The next day we booked on the sand buggy tour where they drive you around the sand dunes and drop you off at certain spots to go sand surfing! It was incredible but I was picking sand out my hair for days 😂 We took some drinks for sunset before heading back into town! We decided to play wild rover drunk bingo in the hostel bar and me and Camille ended up winning so we got 5 shots each and 3 free cocktails! After that we headed into the secret club next door where I lost my alpaca jacket 😭
    When I went to collect it the next day, I saw a Peruvian woman wearing it, and too embarrassed to say anything, I just let her walk away. RIP to the best jacket 😭
    We spent the day hungover and relaxing by the lagoon and later that day Betty arrived, so we grabbed some food and went to the bar for karaoke before I had to catch my bus the next day to Arequipa!    Weiterlesen

    Arequipa 🇵🇪

    Arequipa is a beautiful city away from the coast of Peru and surrounded by volcanos and nature! I took a night bus and arrived first thing in the morning. I explored town and the main square & managed to book on an afternoon walking tour where we fed the alpacas and leant some of the history of the city!
    The next morning I woke up early for a day trip to Pillones waterfall and stone forest!
    My third day in Arequipa I went on a tour around the cathedral and met up with Betty who just arrived in the city! We explored the Santa Catalina Monastery which was beautiful to walk around and learn all the reasons we didn’t want to become nuns! That evening we met up with Rob and Zara who we met in Guatemala and went for some drinks in some of the locals bars!
    I got on a very early bus the next morning, hungover, to the Colca Canyon before meeting back up with Betty to say goodbye because she was flying home to Austria 😭😭    Weiterlesen

    Pillones waterfall & Stone forest 🇵🇪

    Our first stop on the tour was the old town of Pampa de Arrieros to see the oldest train line in Peru! Then we stopped off breakfast and coca tea with a view of the volcanos before heading to the Imata stone forest to see all the incredible formations! Finally we headed up to the highest point of 4600m to reach the waterfall. We hiked down a cliff and along a river, stopping every few minutes to breathe because of the altitude before reaching the falls! The nature in Peru is something else 😍Weiterlesen
