Day 13 - La Coruna

Bloody clocks buggering us about again this morning, we were up an hour earlier than we thought !! A very choppy night, being chucked about all over show. We slept but it was very broken. However, docking this morning the sun was out although there’s been a distinct drop in temperature.
As I have hit the ripe old age of 52 today, we decided to breakfast downstairs in the restaurant, very civilised and very nice. We were still docking as we were having breakfast which is unheard of for us 😂😂. The weather has eased and the captain said he’d ordered two tugs to pull us in but was pleasantly surprised that we didn’t need them.
Our first time in La Coruna, what a lovely place. We decided to take the tour bus around the town. There were 4 stops and it took two and a half hours. Our first stop was San Anton Castle not far from the dock with a nice pier and a nice view back to the ship. We moved on to Torre de Hercules, the oldest Roman Lighthouse in the world. Next was the San Pedro Mount which boasted a 360 degree panoramic glass elevator. On its inaugural climb, the mayor got stuck in it for two hours so they closed it and it never reopened !! There was an octopus statue which was very ornate and again nice views. Finally we went to San Pedro Hill where cannons were transported all the way from England and positioned out to sea to shoot at any enemy. However they have only ever been fired a handful of times. The views up there were spectacular.
We returned to the ship for lunch before going back in to the town to sit in the sun and have a beer. A very pleasant 19 degrees this afternoon which was very unexpected.
The sail-away was fantastic tonight, a phenomenal sunset and lots of people gathered to wave us off. We sailed out to “Time to say goodbye” followed by “we are sailing”. It’s was quite moving and a touch emotional - it got us both as we thought about Sharons dad and how we were on our way home two years ago !!
A nice evening in the restaurant downstairs, we really have grown up. We’re back out on the choppy Atlantic. We had the captain on saying we’ve sailed in to an unexpected storm with wind gusts of 75mph and it’s knocked the ship over by two and a half degrees. So we weren’t sailing upright. Nothing to worry about but it took us about an hour and a half to get back upright and they used a ballast engine to get us sorted. All the pools are closed as are most of the open decks until we get through it - another wobbly night ahead.
A great Birthday with lots of greetings from an awful lot of people and I’ve been well and truly spoiled by the boss !!Leer más
