    Burgwedel for breakfast

    After sorting out Bella and saying farewell to Oskar Boy for the fifthtenth time, engine started just before 11am and we were off. We did a bit of closed canopy motorway driving until just past Hannover, then hit traffic, so took the next exit. We stopped at the next roadside Ratsplatz, alongside a Wohnmobile with a lady with bright red lipstick sat in in the front. I quickly realised, we probably didn't want what she was selling, so moved onto the next Ratsplatz for late breakfast, early lunch. Suitably fed and watered, and with the roof down, we headed off through the tree lined roads towards our destination.Read more

    Beautiful little gem of a Town for a coffee break, just off the main trail. Uelzen seemed to be full of tourists, walkers with rucksacks and people on trekking bikes with paniers. Lovely location with some cool little bars and restaurants that need visiting another time.Read more

    Sunny Lübeck☀️☀️☀️

    A long drive through beautiful countryside brought us finally into Hansa Stadt Lübeck. The hotel situated next to the train station, a stones throw from the iconic Holsentür was perfect. We ventured out in the evening to a vibrant city and had something to eat at a restaurant named Kartoffelnspeicher. Ideally placed next to the river, or moat that circles the town, we sat outside and were entertained by live rock music coming from the park. It was a plesant evening, so we walked around the town and had a drink at the town's oldest bar, the Seafarers Tavern and finished the night in an Irish bar, Flannigan's. I had to drink the obigatory black velvet and we were fortunate to catch a live band, Handschöne perform. The perfect finish to a great first day.Read more

    Marzipan hunt!

    July 26 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

    After breakfast at the Hotel, Pilar and I headed back into the Altstadt in search of Marzipan. We went to the famous Niedregger Café, but we must have had our invisible suits on as the waitresses gave us a stiff ignoring. On the third time of asking, I shouted a few explietives in the general direction of the staff and we moved to the 2nd most famous Marzipan cake supplier. Exceptional Service at the Weiner Café, they even layed out the red carpet for us! Following a Marzipan induced sugar-rush we got some steps in to burn off excess energy taking in the beautiful historical buildings of Lübeck and a pop-up commual flower garden. Finishing our activities around lunchtime alongside the harbour, we were forced to take shelter from the rain at the Fangfrisch Fish & Chip stand. Drooling like Bella at feedimg time, we ended up ordering a portion and they were as good as anything in Blighty (if not better). When the rain eased, we headed back, stopping for some more Marzipan, (when in Rome....) followed by a short Mittagschlaf in the Hotel.Read more

    Warnemünde Hoi

    After a short rest, we jumped in Bobby and headed up the coast to Warnemünde. I secured a photo of the drive on the way that will probably cost a few quid...We arrived at the end of a week long Sailing Regatta and the promenade was full of stands selling tourist nik- nacks, fast food and drinks. It was a pleasant walk, and place to visit again out of season.Read more

    Schwerin

    July 27 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

    Sean went for a run, whilst Pilar did some Egyptian physical fitness training in bed. We had a coffee then headed off to Schwerin...which is a really hard for an Englander to pronounce in German. The beautiful Schloss hits you as you drive into the Stadt. The town is equally as impressive, and there seems to be a water at the end of every street. We had a late breakfast and coffee, sat on deckchairs in the sunshine, followed by a walk around the Altstadt. We plan to return on Tuesday evening for live music on the Marktplatz.Read more

    Roughing it again...Schloss Basthorst

    A drive into the middle of nowhere was rewarded with a lovely hotel based in, and around an old Schloss. We are in an ornate room in the East wing, with a high ceiling and bathed in sunshine from a south facing window. After settling in, we put on our hotel supplied dressing gown's and slippers and headed to the Spa and pool. We had a bit of trouble finding eachother after going into the changing rooms, which caused Pilar to come searching for me in the Men's, whilst I was stood outside the Female's calling for her. All very Laurel and Hardy, but we finally met up and went laughing together for a swim in the indoor pool. Outside in the garden were various Sauna's which I worked my way courageously through. Whilst Pilar sat commenting on the naked people as they came out of the Sauna. We finished off the afteroon with a beer on the sunloungers. Lovely relaxing afternoon.Read more

    Crivitz for dinner

    We checked out the Menu at the hotel and realised that it wasn't quite to our taste...flippin' expensive. So we headed to the local town for sustinance. Had a great meal, for a fair price. P ordered a salad and chips, whilst I went for a gypsy schitzel. When it arrived it was enough to feed a small family for a week.Read more

    Evening walk

    After a bite to eat Pilar foolishly agreed to come for a little walk to the lake. It turned out to be a bit of an adventure. I did a quick google maps recce and decided to navigate us on a circular route back to the Schloss. The path was slightly overgrown in places, but we managed to fight through and get back for sundowner's in the bar.Read more

    Last night out on the Ostsee

    We got turned away from 2 fish restaurants as it was too late...we are talking 7.45pm. So I asked a barman if there was anywhere we could eat fish this late at night...he pointed us in the direction of the Seepearle Oberdeck, so off we went. What a great tip. A pleasant atmosphere, great service and exceptional fish...abit expensive, but you only live once. After supper we walked alomg the harbour front and watched the sun go down. Lovely evening.Read more
