• Day 17 - Hamilton

    19. Dezember 2023 in Neuseeland ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

I stopped off after half an hour to get some groceries for the week (some up&go's, apples and carrots, and some Macca's for lunch, and then continued on driving enjoying listening to the seventh Harry potter and driving with assisted cruise control! The further I get through these books the more confused I am that Dumbledore entrusted the murder of another wizard to a teenage boy. What was he thinking?!
The drive to Hamilton is beautiful, it's all very green on the way! I arrived in Hamilton and went to Waikato museum which was all about the history of Kirikiriroa Hamilton and how it came to be, and had a particularly fun exhibition on the history of swimwear following their swimming journey, and a portrait exhibition.
I walked up and down the main street but it was pretty dead, before heading to my bnb to check in. The couple were both out so I helped myself inside, brought everything into my cute room, before getting changed, locking up, and heading over to the Turner's.
It was so much fun!! I love giant ministry family's. I met Maddy's parents, Becky and Max, husband Mike and 4 kids, Issy, Marcus, JoJo and Annie. Issy and I got on very well, she's very mature for her age! They also have a gorgeous dog called Milby who sat in my lap for about half an hour which was so cuddly and cosy. Mike is working as the assistant Minister at Hamilton South community church and it was cool to hear how he and Maddy have started up this holidays kids club which everyone is involved in including her parents!
Maddy and I caught up about college and when I told her I was doing AFES at USyd she told me she knew Rowan from their old church in Ashbury! And then when I told her I was at st Bede's in Drummoyne, she said she knew Em and Iain! And Mike knew Simon from a job he did for a few months. Such a small world!
We had a great time having dinner, chatting about the funny differences between new Zealand and Australia and what life has been like across the ditch. Issy and I had a fan girl moment over the hunger games movie. We enjoyed lasagne and garlic bread for dinner, and I even had some capsicum with the salad! Then it was Becky's 65th birthday so we had birthday cake too which was a lot of fun! I left around 8 when the kids were getting tired and not enjoying the people company too much, and headed back to my bnb which was funny because I walked in and the hosts were wondering where I was. The guy was sitting on his couch with no shirt on and his partner was in the kitchen offering me ice cream and milkshakes which was cute. I had a shower, which the guy had to show me how to use because you adjust the temperature through the intensity of pulling the handle in or out, rather than side to side. After my shower I planned my day tomorrow popped the tv on in my room watching From Paris with Love with John Travolta and the guy from bend it like Beckham who I love but with an American accent instead of Irish. The tv conked out part way through the movie, and then came back on again so I caught the last 20 minutes of the movie. It probably had a great plot twist but I missed it, and then when the movie ended and I scrolled the channels, I found the movie again at the same point where the tv conked out! So I'm gonna watch a bit more before going to bed.
